I have a new gTLD domain I will refer to the extension as "ABC" to keep the domain name anonymous, the purpose of this thread is to discuss the experience I went through not the domain itself.

So my domain name is market.ABC, I sent 10 outbound emails to potential buyers one of them has an active website aftermarketABC.com he replied very fast:
    "Sure how much?"

After 2 minutes of receiving his email I clicked reply button and started typing in the composer and before I finish typing I received another email from him:
    "never mind I registered aftermarket.ABC"

I admired his speed.. giggled a bit and moved on

Someone might say why didn't you buy his exact domain name match before trying to contact him, that is impossible because when you send outbound you send to tens or hundreds of emails, and it is not rational to buy every exact match domain before contacting each one.

You can try to persuade them to buy it by telling them OK good job you got the aftermarket.ABC domain. However, the name market.ABC will always be a tough one to beat especially when a customer has to choose from both. Think about when your competitor buys it and does a bit of SEO on it.

Then give them an example of a user having two options to choose from, aftermarket.ABC & market.ABC on let's say google. which one would they click because it gave them the impression it is genuine? (Which is the most important thing in branding)

That would be my response. Never had this kind of situation before, I have to admit. You gotta go easy on the pricing though and put it on the lander as BIN. It would pressure them to buy it since it is open for the public and any competitor might take it and make his life worse.

    Good luck!

That's the thing about the new gTLD's, there are so many options available that the chances of making a sale has never been slimmer.

Actually I replied to him immediately after his email where I said:
"market.ABC can still be yours, you can use it to redirect traffic which is a very good SEO trick. I have X domain and I receive huge traffic from it from just type in traffic!"

But that didn't work to convince him, your suggested message is much better but I am not sure if I should send him a second email, I don't want to look desperate.

IMO try again in a month but until then do not display a BIN. Emails are free mate.

    To the OP

Having a history in Cars I can tell you that the terms market and aftermarket are completely different.

If I sell aftermarket car parts then the word market is completely useless to me.

Personally I think you're wasting breath on this and your potential client has probably moved on.
