Hello..
A few questions regarding the rules about registering a .De domain name..

I'm reading different rules regarding the need to have an address in Germany when registering a .De domain name, some sources state that you need to have at least one contact field with an address in Germany, where other sources state this rule has now been dropped and it's open to anyone (maybe why I have been able to successfully register a name).
The registrant may reside anywhere. If you are not resident in Germany you need to appoint a local entity as admin-c contact. Some registrars (not all) will provide the admin contact for you if needed.

And, what's the rule with parking a .DE domain..? I have attempted to set the name servers to parked.com for the short term and it keeps getting rejected.!
For .de domains you need at least 2 name servers on different C class ranges.
You need to check if parked.com servers satisfy that criteria. If not they will be rejected by the registry.

Thanks loads for your updates,

My registrar is with Godaddy so I have used their default name servers and included parked.com as the second name serve, as of yet it hasn't been rejected..

Best..

.de domains

I was wondering if anyone can register .de names & what good registers providing the cheapest pricing for this extention?

When looking up about .de names, it says that you need administrative contact resident in Germany, is that correct? Any ways around that?

Obviously GoDaddy (will act as 'agent' in Germany), but numerous others as well.

godaddy, oneandone.com, eurodns, almost all registrars out there are dealing with .de domains. Only problem that i can see with .de domains; if you buy an already registered one, you cannot change the who-is information (except the email address is changeable) :(

.de domains

I found a .de domains that I am considering registering.

Was wondering if it is worth registering a .de domain that consists of 3 English words with an Overture of about 1,000 searches per day?

Well .DE is the 2nd/3rd biggest domain extension. Pretty much anything goes!

Would these three words be known to Germans? Then yes.
Otherwise I wouldn't reg it unless you're going for SEO in which case any (cheaper) extention would do.

Hard to say though if we don't know the words :)

How much are .de registrations?

Well .DE is the 2nd/3rd biggest domain extension. Pretty much anything goes!

Though their existence are only known by domainers/germans, so it wouldn't go well with anyone else really.

3 words sounds like a long name. I'm skeptical of English domains with .de TLD (unless we are talking about very common English words).
Did you check German Overture ?

Some advice required :) .de

Looking for some advice from this great community :)

These are due to expire in July, but apparently the .de
registry renews or rather tries to renew them 1 month before
due date...don't know why, thought I had time to make
a decision, but it seems I don't.

So I'm asking for your assistance.....

Should I renew or drop?

Banbury.de

BritishIsles.de

NewProperty.de

NewProperties.de

Fallengelassene.de (means "dropped one ")

Hochgeschwindigkeits.de (means "highspeed")

Thanks for your help :)

While the english ones are relatively clear, i don't see all too much value in them unless developed and catering towards the NATO and US soldiers stationed in Germany.

Fallengelassene.de (means "dropped one ")
essentially correct, but it's never spelled this way without a foregoing article:
DIE(the) Fallengelassene (fem. dropped one), if the word is used singlehandedly it would be used as Fallengelassen (no "e" at the end), and even then, i'd doubt the validity as a domain name. I'd drop it.

Hochgeschwindigkeits.de (means "highspeed")
Same as above. The way your DN is spelled, it asks for another word in addition, such as: Hochgeschwindigkeitsstrasse (High Speed Road), it's never used as term ending in "s" - i'd drop it as well.

Hi Wendy,

I would drop them all personally.
But that's just me ;)

Thanks guys for your thoughts and comments!
It does look like they got lost in translation :)

Out of all of them....my fav is
So if I keep just one,

NewProperty.de - developed into a real estate venue type site?

Maybe then worth the renewal?

Setting up my .de domain name servers.

I am having a heck of a time setting up my .de nameserversd, Ive emailed the host of my vps and they tell me basically to do it myself.

So this is what I need to set them at

When modified for a .DE domain name, the new name servers must meet the following criteria:

* Refresh rate between 10000 and 86400 seconds
* Retry rate between 1800 and 28800 seconds
* Expiration rate between 604800 and 3600000 seconds
* Resource record TTL (Time To Live) between 180 and 345600 seconds

Practically some of these values cause errors, we recommend the following settings:

* Refresh rate: 10000
* Retry rate: 3600
* Expiration rate: 604800
* Minimum TTL: 86400

The following criteria must also be met:

* The domain MX record must resolve to a mail server that is valid for the life of the domain registration.
* The DNS servers must be located on two distinct class C networks.
* The zone files for both name servers must have matching serial numbers.
* The primary and secondary hosts specified in both zone files must match the first and second name servers entered.

But I have no experience with setting nameservers etc, this is my first time on vps.

I am getting this error from godaddy when I submit the nameserver change request.

"Error: RegCCTLDSvc: ModifyRegistration request failure - UNHANDLED NIC
RESPONSE

UNHANDLED NIC RESPONSE"

Can anyone help me out with this, Ive already gone to my host but like I said, they wont help me.

Thanks in advance

Dylan

How to make a .de 'mine' - 100$ NP for correct answer

There is a .de domain I want to buy from a guy, and we are already agreed on price and whatnot. He told me that the domain is registered through his host (hosteurope.de) and he first registered it with them many many years ago- Now I am a american and primarily use godaddy to hold my domains. How can I go about getting this domain to somewhere where I know he cant take it back? Also keep in mind, I dont speak german (though, I do have a friend who does) (and the entire hosteurope site is in german) So can I even own a .de domain being a american, or will I have to have my friend own it?

If the domain isnt transferrable, would be changing all the account info + password on his account be good enough? (I dont really like this way, but its better than nothing)

Cheers

Guy who gives a good answer, in good english gets 100np
