Verisign is in biz-bed with emmys.tv and HRTS (Hollywood Radio & Television Society). Beyond merely trying to get the entertainment industry to buy/use/adopt the .tv extension Verisign, in Oct. of 2005, bought
Moreover Technologies (30 million in cash). This below-the-radar deal is one of the reasons I am bulluish on the .tv extension.
Moreover is a co-author of the RSS 1.0 standard. "Moreover aggregates more than 12,000 news sources and millions of blogs. Harvesting information from across 126 countries in 25 languages."
"Unlike traditional content syndicators that resell proprietary information, Moreover's sophisticated technology continually scours the Internet to capture and distribute breaking news and business information from thousands of qualified, handpicked sources – including websites, weblogs and broadcast video and audio feeds."
Combining voice recognition software with indexing and categorization, Moreover delivers web-based access to more than 18 channels of broadcast video content, including full transcripts. "Access is provided as a feed of XML headlines, with short extracts. Clicking on the headline redirects the user to a two-minute clip. Full text translation is provided along with each clip for client-side indexing and categorization."
This technology, IMO, can be deployed beyond the present subscribtion model... for corporations (BBC and MSN use it). It has the capability to function as a web-wide electronic media content & channel guide, with Adsense/Adword style monetization built-in... allowing websites to advertise and profit from the display of content related audio & video feeds.
So, to get back to the HRTS question, Verisign, moreover (pun intended), would love to nail-down as many Radio and TV channels as possible. Perhaps they have plans to roll-out something BIG... like competing with Google et al in the adword site-content market. Ummm, text ads v rich media links (research strongly favors rich media click through rates). Certainly provides an explanation why Google rushed into video search, and monetization, with a halfbaked program... in the last few months
Note... this is a personal forward looking statement and may have no bearing on actual future developments and events.
BTW, I like how Moreover only uses 1 "w" in their web address (
http://w.moreover.com ). Now Thats How You Brand a Domain Name Addy!!
