"SEARCH RESULTS:

Congratulations!

HOSTELS.TV is a premium domain name that has not yet been registered, but it will not be available for purchase until Q1 2007. We have taken thousands of premium names off the market for a short time to ensure equal opportunity for everyone interested in registering this premium name. By using a .tv Web address, both companies and individuals can offer online viewers a simple and easily recognizable gateway to finding rich media content.

Please fill out the form below and we will contact you with a date for when the name will be for sale."

You know what I read here?

- "to ensure equal opportunity for everyone interested in registering this premium name."

- "name will be for sale"

Auction.

Given the relatively higher buzz .mobi got from auctions than .tv has gotten from high reg fees, it has to have crossed their minds.

Overall, auctions would be a great approach if they took it. In one swoop, we would see market prices get established (last time I checked, there were still about 3,000 unregged premiums) AND take away remaining confusion about the premium pricing model (e.g. all names renew at same level, but just auction price is higher) and get the remaining names out into the market...

and presumably they would market it better than the HRTS auction was.

hmm...

Yes, I see what you mean.

Looking forward for that Q1 2007

Definitely a great approach. Couldn't have said it better myself.

Definitely NOT for me.

I don't and won't have money to enter those auctions. Suppose many here won't either.

And already decided not to take part even if I had the money...

I just want to point out that at this stage these auctions are wholly a product of my imagination.

So certainly I would not want people taking the time to decide to spend or not spend money, that they may or may not have, based on me overanalyzing two sentences on a website!! ;)

like .com I would imagine. i can't imagine any of the newer tlds giving more protection than .com

I don't see what the difference is between what was and what could be. The "old" way was an equal opportunity for anyone to buy it as long as they had the money for it.

The "name will be for sale" is no differnt also. It could mean exactly the same strategy.

I think that if these names do go to auction and it is hyped up enough, it can mean very big news for .tv domain holders. If the big boys come and play we can see some great keywords going for $10,000 - $50,000 or more!

Flowers.mobi went for what $300,000,000. How much would you pay for Show.tv? Show.tv was a $7500 premium. How much do you think it would go for on the open "auction" market?

Well the auction format with .tv the first time really did not go over that well Kids.tv went for $10,100 a domain they had listed at $100,000 a year. IMO one of the best .tvs KIDS.tv has so many ways to go for development and it went for $10,100. The other 3 Comedy, broadcast and Watch did not go for more than $5500 SO I do not think an auction for premiums is guaranteed to be a success.

Secondly this is just an interpretation by one person there is nothing be hinted at an auction format. I think the real reason why they are holding off is to evaluate traffic pick which ones they want then put the rest out at Premiums based on interest and traffic. IMO

Correct, I understood that. What I meant was that IF it would really be an Auction format, I wouldn't take part. And I really wouldn't. However, I already have a few .TV domains in my niches, not the top premiumn but premiuns for me. Thanks for clarifying for all of us anyway.

I don't see "equal opportunity" at all in here. Example: Imagine the Gold Rush in the Klondyke, Alaska. A deposit of gold is found by a solitaire miner, he sells the first nuggets, the government get to know about it and lock the area, then waiting for big players like Alcan, CVRD... (assuming the equivalent of them existed at that time) placed their bets/offers. Question: Would that be "equal opportunity" for all the thousand of miners who arrived there well before the Big Shots? Of course not.

Sure, it is today's business, but not a good one for domainers who have more "entrepreneurism" than "bank accounts".

There are a few extra zeros here. Flowers.mobi went for, just, $200,000.

BTW, does anyone know which are the +-3,000 words included in that Premium list?

Thanks.

Equity, I think that the difference between the last auction and one that would take place in 2007 would be much different. Now there are many more developed and reged .tvs and there will be a much bigger push imo.

The number of developed .tvs is not up substantially since that auction, the number of people getting 70 % off and regging premiums is up substantially. So I don't believe auctions would be a bigger boon nor do I think they are going the auction format.

Also a completely plausible approach...it is all speculation anyway.

i wonder if we will be able to pick up on what has disappeared in the interim ;)

Good Point antonis I thought the same thing, It will be interesting to see what they reg we don't have a full list to compare to. Even their list did not have all the premium .tvs

I think I have to agree with the auction approach for .tv premiums starting at a low reserve $50-$100 or something close to move em fast. Holding onto those premiums undeveloped or underdeveloped doesn't seem to mesh with their corporate 'tone'. I feel that they will be bringing a whole slew of reasonably priced/free development and monetization tools to the market to help old and new .tv owners roll out a site faster and monetize them quicker on a rev share basis making Demand Media/ChannelMe.com/Enom.TV a one stop shop and a destination for 'channel surfers' to find all kinds of niche channels in one place.

Cheers!
