I'm a new member of this forum, but I've been a daily reader for quite some time. I worked for .tv from June of 2000 until just a few months ago. I wasn't able to join the forum and post while I was working for .tv/VeriSign, but I work for Oversee.net now (DomainSponsor.com, LiveDigital.com, etc) so I am free to post.

I just wanted to say 'thanks' to Ray and everyone at NamePros for setting up this forum. It really is the best place to discuss the .tv tld. I am still a big believer in .tv and I think 2007 will be a big year for .tv owners. I believe that DemandMedia/eNom will help contribute to our success, despite some of the concerns others have expressed about them. The concerns are justified, but I have faith that they are going to do a great job.

Congrats to all of you for being ahead of the game and getting in on .tv early. I wasn't able to register .tv domains while I was employed there, but one of the first things I did when I left the company was to buy Broadcast.tv from the previous owner. He got it in the HRTS auction so it has a $50 renewal, and I didn't pay much more than he did, so I think I scored big time.

I look forward to participating in the forum and to our continued success in 2007.

Hig

Hiyas, Hig. As your first .tv, you are starting off with a 'boom, baby!' I always wonder about who might be out there reading the forum but never posting.... kind of fun to actually hear form one.

Wow, thanks for all of the replies! I'll try to answer all the questions in one post. For starters; I'm not in business with Igal, though I do know him well. Also, he is not the one who originally bought Broadcast.tv. As far as I know, the only domain he got in the HRTS auction was Kids.tv, which is also a great pickup.

The one thing I will share about my time at .tv is that there were a lot more large sales than you might realize. The unfortunate thing was that every time we made a major sale, the buyer would insist that we keep the sale price confidential. The last thing we wanted to do was upset good customers, so we always kept our word and we did not disclose the sales prices when confidentiality was requested. There were several 6 figure deals made over the years, and three 7 figure deals. That's right - three separate deals for $1M+. You only see 7 figure deals in .com once or twice per year (OK, three times last year) so three of them in five or six years ain't bad for .tv. I still won't disclose what the domains were, out of respect for the buyers, but I want all of you to know that major sales have been taking place for several years now.

Also, when I first started at .tv and I told people that the internet is becoming more like tv everyday, and that one day the computer and the tv will converge into one piece of hardware, many of them scoffed and said that convergence might never happen, and if it does, it's at least ten years away. I'm sure all of you had the same experience. Well...guess what...it's here now and it's here to stay. Not only do people watch tv on the internet, but they also surf the internet while using their tv screen as the monitor. Next we will be buying flat screen tv's that come equipped with a hard drive, keyboard and mouse. Add to that the fact that 'tv' means the same thing in every language on the planet, and it is easy to see that the value in .tv will continue to grow.

Thanks again for all of your replies and good wishes!

Hig

Thanks Hig,

Can you reveal whether or not the seven figure sales involved a flat one time premium or a seven figure annual renewal, just curious?
