I just picked up xmlramble.com. It looks like it'll get about 200 hits a month, and I have no idea what to do with it! From what I can find, it used to be a news aggregator of some sort, not sure though. With this amount of traffic, can this domain be sold? Should I build a site for it? Or should I just park it with the rest of my horrible name purchases and forget about it.

Thanks for any advice, sure do need it...

Yes, you could park it and see if some of those hits convert into cpc's or you could develop it back into a news aggregator site, which is probably IMHO the best thing to do, traffic is golden and you've already got a domain with traffic so why not utilizie it?.

until you figure it out then you might as well park it. how do yo know how much traffic you're getting? i don't see any website statistics code on your website.

I agree. But park it or host it with a single page to start with. If you can verify what people are searching for that brings them to that domain, then you can decide if you need to create some kind of site on the same topic, or optimize a domain parking page to take advantage of it. Nice work!

Thank you for all the advice!

Shockie - I keep stats using some custom php code I wrote. When I find a new domain, I like to just drop that default for sale page in a folder until I decide what to do with it. The code tracks basic info like ip address, date time, yadayada, storing it all in mysql for me to check up on later. And it picks up the name using $_SERVER['HTTP_HOST'], so I don't have to modify the code at all for each domain. Seems like I might be better off parking it though to see if any clicks happen. Then again, I am a coder and can't help tinkering.

nielsencl - That seems to be the toughest part...what are they looking for? :) the way back machine was little help, but I have found sites that link to xmlramble.com, so someone put in some work awhile back.

I think I'll park for now, and maybe try to throw a site together like mosilager suggests. Thanks guys!

Wayne,

Your hosting provider should have stats for you, but I understand wanted to code something yourself... :) The stats would show you the search queries if they exist, but you can see them with $_SERVER[HTTP_REFERER] if you collect that info and it will also show if some sites have links to you, although I would use https://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/mysites to find those.

Quick update for ya. I did a bit more research (bit being the last several hours) and found that at one time, xmlramble was getting massive amounts of traffic. Doesn't help me now of course, but interesting nonetheless.

So after searching and searching, I finally found a premium wordpress theme that allows me to create my own alltop.com clone, check out the site if you want. There's nothing going on there right now, but I have no more energy to spend tonight.

It's going to look cool when it's done though. Thanks for all the advice guys!
