Need Help: Unfair Treatment: Afternic/GoDaddy Cancelling Completed Sale of Visitations.org

Hello NamePros community,

I need advice and want to share my recent experience with GoDaddy / Afternic regarding my domain Visitations.org.

The domain was successfully sold through Afternic and fully transferred to the buyer on August 29th, 2025. However, I have now been informed today that the transaction is being cancelled, and the domain will be returned to me, with an authorization code provided for me to re-transfer it back.

This is deeply concerning and unacceptable because:
  • The transfer was already finalized on August 29th.
  • Once a domain is transferred, ownership is considered complete and irreversible under standard ICANN and registrar rules.
  • No clear reason for this cancellation has been provided, and I have not been given any explanation from GoDaddy or Afternic despite repeated follow-ups.
I believe this undermines seller trust, marketplace credibility, and proper domain transfer protocols. At the very least, sellers deserve transparency when something like this happens.

Has anyone else faced a similar situation where GoDaddy/Afternic reversed a completed domain transfer after the fact? What steps can I take to escalate this, as I feel this could set a dangerous precedent for sellers?

Your insights would be greatly appreciated.

Update on Visitations.org case:

I want to clarify something important here. Visitations.org was not sold through Afternic directly โ€” it was an outbound sale that I personally closed with a U.S. client.

The transfer was completed on August 29, 2025, and the domain is already in the buyerโ€™s account. To confirm, I just spoke with the buyer by phone, and they also sent me written confirmation via email that the domain is under their possession (screenshot attached below).

This makes the cancellation notice from Afternic/GoDaddy even more concerning, since:
  • The transaction is already finalized.
  • The buyer themselves confirmed receipt.
  • Reversing a completed transfer goes against ICANN norms and puts both buyer and seller at risk.
Iโ€™m sharing the screenshot of the clientโ€™s email here for transparency.

Would appreciate the communityโ€™s thoughts on how best to escalate this, because I believe this issue affects not just me but all sellers who rely on marketplace integrity.

Note: I HAVE ALSO ATTACHED THE EMAIL COMMUNICATION AND CLIENT'S CONFIRMATION ON DOMAIN

I have now sent a detailed email to the Afternic Transaction Assurance team ([email protected]) regarding this issue. The email includes the full timeline, the buyerโ€™s written confirmation, and my objections to the attempted cancellation.

For transparency, I have also attached the PDF of the email that was sent.

Tagging @GoDaddy and @Afternic here so the right teams are aware of this situation. This matter is urgent since the domain was already transferred on August 29, 2025, and the buyer has confirmed it is in their possession.

I believe this issue not only affects me but could have broader implications for seller trust and marketplace credibility. I will appreciate a swift resolution and clarification from GoDaddy/Afternic.

Concern:

Just to clarify In another thread, GoDaddy had already informed me that the payout for Visitations.org (sold via Fast Transfer) would be scheduled soon:

๐Ÿ‘‰ https://www.namepros.com/threads/afternic-payment-delays-manual-transfer-fast-transfer-my-recent-experience.1361454/

But now, instead of receiving the payout, Iโ€™m being told the sale is being cancelled even though the domain was fully transferred on August 29, 2025, and the buyer has confirmed possession.

This contradiction between earlier payout assurance and the current cancellation notice is exactly why I feel this is unfair and unacceptable treatment of sellers.

Please what do you mean by the below

"I want to clarify something important here. Visitations.org was not sold through Afternic directly โ€” it was an outbound sale that I personally closed with a U.S. client"

1. Did the buyer buy the name on Afternic

2. Did you provide the Auth Code to Afternic or you Pushed/Transfered the domain to the buyer directly?

I ask because of the above quote from your earlier post and also need to understand the need for a screenshot or even a confirmation from the buyer if he got the domain.
