It says it expires in 2019 (from Whois) and it forwards to the .bank, did you mean that or am I mistaken somehow?

It may not matter to you if it is a Trademark.

I do not want to register it and i won't. I was just pointing out that they dropped it in favor of .bank
As far as I saw from @creataweb and then checked, they took bankofrantoul.com and redirected it to .bank

Is this a trend, dropping .com and move to new gtld's ?

A trend would require a lot more doing it but as far as a move goes why would anyone surrender a business with established traffic.

There is a missing "Of" in bankrantoul (.) com this is why you found that it was available I think!
(hugedomains was the previous owner ...)

It is, but originally it was theirs, if you check the history from web.archive.org

https://web.archive.org/web/19961226164326/http://www.bankrantoul.com

Yes I know but They didn't use it since 2006/5, and they didn't bought it from Hugedomains, so I think they are not interested in this name, this is why it was available.

They were using bankofrantoul com and you are right they left if for the .bank one, but I don't think that they will let bankofrantoul com expire

Any company would be silly to drop their primary .COM, even if they choose to use another extension. In this case the domain seems like an unused secondary domain.

Still when random anecdotal examples stand out as unusual, it is clearly not a part of a big movement. It will be a big deal when a company doing this is no longer a big deal.

One domain does not make a trend :)

I think its a privilege to own a new gtld with exact match of your company name.
But I would keep the .com for brand protection wouldn't drop it.

Swarm.com is forwarding to Swarm.fund. FYI

They may be on fishing expedition and go back to com at anytime, because let's be honest BankRantoul(.)com is not a winner either.

So it is not just an isolated example, people are really doing this

Yes there are - some valuable .com names are now beying forwarded to new gTLDs...those end users were aparently not lectured enough about importance of .com names...:)

This is a trend, many companies worldwide are moving from .com to new gtlds, even people who have previously paid a handsome amount now realize those names are dated.

I come accross websites everyday who have move from a .com to a new tld. It is only domainers who think .com is better, that is old thinking not shared in the real world.
