Hello,

All day I had this thought in my head that if new gTLD's were to go away would .com, .net, .org domain name sales would go up, go down or stay the same?

Ex... If a 3L .com sales for now $50K if new gTLD's go away would it go up in price to $75k or $100K.

What do you think?

Same or up.

How often do reg fee new TLDs ($50 or under) cannibalize aftermarket .COM domain sales?

How often do aftermarket new TLDs (same keyword but lower price) cannibalize aftermarket .COM domain sales?

There is likely an effect but I am not sure of the answer.

if new gTLD's were to go away

fyi - ICANN working on further releases of new gTLDs e.g. geo, territory, .idn , idn.idn etc.

less choices would probably mean the original extensions would see more registrations and sales. I mean, lack of choice is what made them popular in the first place.

.net certainly would be doing much much better.

I'm not sure it would really change much for the most premium .com's
