Monetization via Parking or Mini Sites?

Hi all

I have been involved in the parking business for a short while now. I have a domain that has the following stats:

Google results: 500,000
Overture count: 14,000
The domain is an undeveloped .net site.

I have been disappointed with parking results as the domain is getting views but not a single click.

My question is this - how can I go about developing the domain name into a mini site so that I can explore alternative monetization options? If I was to do this I would withdraw it from the parking program.

I would be most grateful to hear from fellow domainers who have gone down the route of developing their own mini sites rather than park them; in particular I would love to know how you went about it, what tools you used and what monetization methods you used.

Thanks!

Kaz2,

Have you tried 1Plus.net? They kind of build a mini-site for you from your settings. Check out my post:
"A Step-byStep Guide to Optimizing Your Use of 1Plus" .

Bear in mind that their stats are turned off, so you have to use your Google AdSense and Google Analytics to monitor your traffic and revenue performance, but the up side of that is you know the stats are true and not being skewed or manipulated by a parking company.

I have seen improved traffic and click through once I moved domains from a traditional parking company to 1Plus.

Welcome to the Domainer community and good luck to you.

I think you can find some freelancers to write simple articles for you. Then you can add adsense (or similar) ads around them.

1. The Overture stats are for the domain keyword or domain.TLD ?
2. Did you optimized the parked pages with relevant keywords ?
3. Is it a new or old expired domain name ?
4. If you parked it at namedrive at least you could get few pennies for popup traffic if you don't get ANY clicks

Hi dotnom, thanks for the reply. Answers are:
(1) Overture stats are for the domain keyword only without the TLD.
(2) I optimised the parked page with the domain keyword - it is with Sedo and , to be honest, I have not been very impressed with the performance I have with domains parked their. Several views but no CTR.
(3) It is a brand new domain name.
(4) I guess that what I am after, apart from advice on developing a minisite, is better parking optios than Sedo - I have heard good things about 1plus.ner and Goldkey.

What is your feeling on developing a minisite for sale and how would you go about it? I as assuming that a small site, with some traffic and monetization will be much easier to sell then just a newly created parked domain.

Thanks for the link artful, I will definitely have a read of your post. If I stick to the parking route then I will definitely give them a try.

However, am I right in thinking that you have a better chance of selling a newly registered name if you develop a mini site and get some traffic and monetization on it?

The problem I have is this artful - I do not have an Adsense account as I've only just started out in this business. My understanding is that if I develop a new registered mini site and slap a few articles on it Google will immediately reject my application as they are after established sites with great content and some traffic as this is crucial to the integrity of their Adwords program.

Am I correct in thinking that most Adsense accout holders get their initial account with a very good established website with content and then, once they have the account, set up minisites with the Adsense code as they no longer need assessment?

There is also the problem of getting a newly registered mini site indexed - I would be grateful to get your input on this artful!

Have you considered whypark? It's an alternative to regular domain parking. I haven't had much success with ones parked with Sedo and recently moved some domains over to whypark which are doing better. Of course there is a one-time fee per 100 domains hosted but I think it is worth it because you get a content-rich website that is keyword-targeted, can customize, easy set-up, have control in how you promote, can keep track of the site through google sitemaps & analytics and keep 100% ad revenue.
Here is an example of one of my sites I have hosted with them:
