This might show my lack of experience...but:

Is it to soon to be seeing .mobi's on Ebay?

Unless it is a great domain name the prices of domain names on Ebay are generally sold lower....or not at all due to the "I want a deal or no sale at all" factor.

Will a cheap sale of a higher (not premium) quality .mobi domain hurt the future investment potential of a .mobi?

I know we all look for profit but we all also want to make sure we get the most profit possible.
I personally only invested in one .mobi but I know many people on Namepros have invested a significant amount of money into the new market and I think there is a need to have it established and developed before there is a value attached to it. I am afraid cheap early sales can hurt the future.

I think people want this to become a market standard and not an extension to buy and sell for a quick 5% profit.

I am just wondering what others think (if you can follow what I am asking).

Oh yeah of the 31 I saw listed on Ebay only one had an $86 bid. The others had a high buy it now or reserve. This is all just a thought I had.

-Thank you for your time.
-Aaron

I think it's too soon to be seeing them yet. Those prices on eBay are simply ridiculous.

I think it was pretty much inevitable that .mobis would be on ebay this soon, but I doubt it will have much if any effect on their value.

What I think will effect their value is:

a. How much advertising the "big boys" do promoting the extension.

b. If google gives preference to .mobi extensions in search results when people do a search from a mobile device.

c. If .mobi become the default when browsing the web from a mobile device.

d. The number of .mobi sites that are developed with good content.

To me those seem to be the "uncertain" factors that will have the most impact on the value of a .mobi

Even if it does, it will probably take some time. Third party sites like google and MSN will come the soonest. However, search and extension defaults on most mobile phones are partially into the software/firmware of the individual phones. It will take some time for software updates and telephone replacements before it can become universal. It will also depend if all providers come on board. I've heard a few like Verizon may not be backers of the new extension, and may wait to see if they have to competition-wise.

Why not if nothing else its good exposure for .mobi owners. The more names and the more people that know about them the better.
