I was just looking and Im amazed at how many squatters are using .mobi domains and are trying to sell them on ebay. 7-up.mobi, bkjoe.mobi topmodel.mobi. I am by no means a .mobi fan, but this type of stuff gives the TLD a bad reputation. I personally think that if this continues, this could be bad news.

Any thoughts?

That happens with every extension; it's something that is difficult to prevent.

I know its in every extension, but I was surprised that there were a bunch on ebay and people were bidding.

There does seem to be a lot of "obvious" TM domains with mobi and it won't look very professional if a lot of companies take issue with it.

The mtld could provide a much needed service to TM holders by simply removing the domain upon a complaint and small investigation. It would only take a couple of people to search the mobi database for obvious ones. Send a letter asking for an explanation from the registered owner. No satisfactory reply and good bye domain.

Perhaps the TM holder would then be interested in acquiring the domain and attaching it to their well known business.

That would be a benefit for all legitimate mobi domain owners.

Once started, that would discourage people from continuing the practice.

No problem, I just didnt expect to see so many tm .mobi domains on ebay. Yes I know this happens a lot in .com, but they usually dont go unnoticed.

I think I must be too ;)

In general, these names are often regged & sold by inexperienced domainers rather than cyber-squatters with any real criminal intent (ignorance is no defence of course)... I haven't seen many of these being sold by Chinese ebayers yet (which is where the most blatant rip-offs are regged)

It's called Network Solutions.
How would you differentiate legitimate complaints from the ones submitted by your competitor? And what makes you think that there is going to be an unbiased "investigation".
Even WIPO as it is biased, sometimes.
