Hi all, there definetly seems to be a buzz about .mobi at the moment, there seems to be alot of end users starting to publish their new shiney .mobi sites and i for one have been getting lots of offers, most low balls but they are offers all the same, i honestly hand on heart couldn't say that .mobi would fail now, just look at some of the latest news bofa.mobi the slim but mighty chance that .mobi could head up an advertising medium for coca cola etc! this seems on the surface as a run away success to me!

What do you lot think??

.mobi is slowly starting to show success. It will still take a lot more time. Right now the only names that are selling are the usual reseller type like LLL, NNN, and major top keywords, since there arent many endusers out there yet. It will be a long time before just any random word is worth a lot of money the way it is with .com right now. We still need cellphones to have better internet plans, similar to Helio's service where everything is included for unlimited use (calls, internet, text messaging) all for one low price. Most people that I know do not have an internet plan with their phones, they only have a text message plan added. The iPhone should also help get the mobile web moving. I am very happy with the majority of the .mobi names that I own and I am still buying more on the aftermarket right now. I also regged a lot back in the fall and just figured I would worry about what isnt so great later on.

:hi:

Stand-alone, developed BOFA.mobi is significant, IMHO ... but I believe we will need to see its mainstream advertising and promotions next as a strong follow up! :music:

Not as significant - humbly - are these .MOBI pointers to their respective .COM/mobile pages ... which most fans would claim as effective branding of the .MOBI. In this respect, I think the building of the "ecosystem" is (more) paramount for the extension ... and I can't quite grasp how "pointers" are building out this key / critical component. :guilty: :imho:

I'm still learning, as well ... :gl:

Wholesale sales have slowed fairly considerably, IMHO ... the only ones that I'm seeing on a fairly regular basis are those of the LLL.mobi and NNN.mobi categories (but I'm fully aware that a lot of other sales may be taking place in a more private setting(s), as well). I think the Traffic Show this month will be a good indicator for the rest of the summer / fall ... End user sale(s) at this specific New York venue should be attained, for once IMHO. It would be a good boost for the .MOBI here! :music:

Thus far, I give the .MOBI a C/C+ ... realizing it's early in the extension's existence. I think - and I can't imagine too many disagreeing - that contuinued development is the KEY to its future viability! Develop. Develop. Develop.

Lots of positives for the weeks and months ahead ... be realistic with your expectations, build, and stay tuned for further updates here and throughout the various Forums, etc. from mTLD and its partners, cell phone providers, wireless plans / charges, phone makers, etc. The Namepros .MOBI Forumโ„ข is still the #1 best place to discuss and share thoughts and opinions! :tu:
Just my two sense, and Best of Luck to all .MOBI domainers / developers / investors!

Since stand alone .mobi is so important to you then please include sites like statefarm.mobi, bmw.mobi, ferari.mobi, twc.mobi, tim.mobi, nba.mobi, three.mobi, ericsson.mobi, businessweek.mobi, utexas.mobi, Rolls-Royce.mobi, etc.

There are still some great names you can register, just keep searching.

Fair enough ... any fully developed .MOBI stand-alone websites with unique and compelling content are worthy of kudos for the all-important "ecosystem", IMHO. :music:

Disagree, IMHO. :guilty:

Unless one has a specific reason to hand register any remaining .MOBI domain names - for instance, development! - one would be better off saving their would be registration fees and then purchasing a better (generally perceived to be more valuable) .MOBI domain name in the aftermarket, etc. IMHO. :gl:
Seriously.

Just my two sense.

Jeff, I could not agree more. I've already seen some new people drop a few hundred on worthless regs that they will have to renew for many years to come just to hope for a profit. On the other hand, they could spend a couple hundred in the aftermarket securing a decent name that will in the end result in much larger gains. Plus they will only face the renewal fee of one name VS the 20+ renewal fees they will be facing.

The mobile web isn't here yet, at least in the US and for most of the world outside of Japan. It will be a good 2-4 years before average landrush regs can even hope to pull down serious high dollar sales and that is "assuming" .mobi goes mainstream. 1st Tier and 2nd Tier names were registered a long long time ago (last year anyway). What I see being regged now would be hard pressed to see a decent resale in the .com (other than some decent foreign language regs I have seen).

I disagree. I've seen some that would bring a lot in .com. What you said about spending the same $200 on one good aftermarket name vs. spending the same $200 on 20 hand reg's is true however.

But that doesn't mean there aren't still good names to be had out there. Some may in fact be a waste of money, only time will tell. .mobi is still a gamble any way you look at it. But, it's an educated gamble if you find good porn names to reg, etc.

Yes, an educated gamble! Unfortunately I see a lot of uneducated new domainers making registrars rich with little hope of seeing a return on their investment.

There are still some good names to be found (I just registered "AdjustableRate(s).mobi" today, for instance, which would be worth a good amount in .COM). Problem is, the majority of people still registering .MOBIs aren't finding 'em! :td:

There are good names to be had. On May, 8 I regged a name and already sold it for 15x reg. fee. That to me is a good name and I know of a few more out there that have potential. I have also had 3 inquiries to buy names in the past week alone and am still negotiating on 2. I do think mobi is showing signs of success!

Keith is right, there are good names to be had, especially for certain things that we all do, or will do on our phones secretly - :yell:
