.mobi .mobi little by little!

Around the first week of October I went to buy a new case for my cell phone, and I asked the shop owner if he had heard about the .mobi extension for cell phones, and his reply was, Mobi what? So, I took the time to explain to him about .mobi, and using the PC at the store I showed him the mtld.mobi website. he was genuinely impressed with the .mobi showcase sites that he saw. today I went back to buy a new battery and suprisingly he didn't charge me for it. he said that thanks to me he was able to make more sales on certain mobile models by familiarizing himself with .mobi. he showed me a small flyer that he had printed that contained a list of .mobi websites for his clients to browse. Among the sites were AAA.mobi, Time.mobi, Amtrak.mobi, BusinessWeek.mobi, BOFA.mobi, MSN.mobi, CNNMoney.mobi, AXA.mobi, HSM2.mobi, Bars.mobi, TBS.mobi ect,

I believe we Domainers should make every effort to introduce .mobi to the general public. I, myself, talk about .mobi extension to everyone I see with any PDA, Blackberry, iphone or any other mobile device.

As my contribution to the growth of the .mobi extension by next week I will have 1000 flyers printed that I will spread around my city cell shops, after all I have a vested interest in its success.

Just Biz, Yes I've been talking to some folks in the biz world & on wall street.The interesting thing was that some of the folks on wall street heard of .mobi & none of the biz folks knew about it.
I have been talking about it and it seems to be catching on very slowly,just like .com did ,HA Ha . Very Cool story, Just Biz, keep spreading the news...

JustBiz, that was a great promotion action! In my daily job at the office, I have also explained to just a couple of colleagues about the existense and the usefullness of the .Mobi extension. But I have not been that spontaneous as you to tell a lot of people in public or in shops, about the .Mobi sites when they are using their cell phones..

By the way, perhaps you can also to that shop owner that there are very powerful toolings to build .Mobi sites in a fast and efficient way: http://www.mobisitegalore.com/websites.htm

Perhaps, that shop owner could get even more enthousiastic about .Mobi when he can launch a Mobi site for his own shop via the mentioned website tooling of MobiSiteGalore.com

By the way, has some one already found a more specific Mobi development tooling that is even more attractive for the general public or the teenagers (15-19 years). For example, the general public can create their own free PC websites with for example FreeWebs.com.
I think that MobiSiteGalore.com has a very good development tools and templates for (small/medium) business owners, but do you think that their tools and templates can be attractive for the general public or teenagers as well?

Recently I found an affiliate (networkmarketing) promotion email in may mail-box, related to the .WS domain and hosting services of Website.ws site. When I investigated the "success story" of the .ws domain due to the many networkmarketing promotion, I was very surprised, since the .ws domain is just a country code for the island Samao which has a population of 200,000 people. But due to networkmarketing, there are already 20,000,000 .ws sites in Google database (=> site:.ws)
I also noticed that site:.mobi resulted in around 659,000 .mobi sites in Google database.

I don't think MTLD should start a networkmarketing or affiliate program business, since that is like a "pyramid game" where the networkmarketing hype can be sometimes too high, but I do think that if each .Mobi domainer contributes in the "spontaneous promotion" of .Mobi extension or sites to people at work or at public places (like shop owners), the popularity of .Mobi can be increased significantly.

Great post! Tonight I went to a party and talked about .mobi, all the MBA's were all ears. The zoo keepers weren't as interested lol.

I picked up my friend's ipod touch this weekend and had an eureka moment when I realized how viral and addictive small sites could be on mobile devices. Even on the ipod touch and iphone which have mostly full functioning browsers, the .mobi sites were much more satisfying.

There is such beauty in simplicity.
