I have a client that wants to buy several of my domain names in bulk around 50 names.
I gave him a reasonable price for the names but he wants to have a manual appraisal done from a reliable source/company done by myself.
Usually is it the buyer that needs to pay for the manual portfolio appraisal or the seller?
And in either case, what are the best manual appraisers for domain names?
Thanks.

You should know by now this is a common scam, you pay one of their appraisal companies, then they change their mind and no longer want to buy.

Don't pay for appraisals period.

How well do you know this 'client' ? Can the appraisal scam be ruled out? I would never pay for an appraisal. The buyer should do his own research.

The buyer is a very active member of "http://www.thenamepros.com" forum in domain names. With the posts he made... I can see he is an active domain names buyer.
He buys a lot of domain names and we already agreed on the price (xxx$) of a specific name that he will pay by paypal.
Now he's interested in a bulk sale of about 50 names and I'm selling them at half price the appraisal from valuate.com/estibot.com
The names are very decent names to very good premium descriptive names.

It's up to the buyer if he wants an appraisal. It's not the seller's responsibility.

TheNamePros.com is run by scam artists.

TheNamePros.com is run by scam artists.
Deal-breaker.

And looks like a TM issue too. Sorry, just thawing myself off the Legal Issues thread lately.

I'm sure you guys are right, but this buyer looks legit.
Maybe the best thing to do is to go with the mid ($xxx) sell of the single name and if everything goes smoothly... then I will go with the Bulk sale of the 50 names by asking him to do the appraisal if he needs one... because he's saying that he needs one for reselling purpose... which will make sense.
What do you guys think?

He is trying to scam you. thenamepros.com are all scammers & after he pays (assuming he does),he'll just do a payment reversal and get his money back, thus you'll lose the money AND your domains.

Don't do business with him. No exceptions. He's a scammer.

Okay, I'll change what I said:

If you do this, only do it with a reliable escrow (only one you've heard of. If he recommends one, make sure you know the company). And don't appraise anything. Let him if he's that concerned.

I'm sure you guys are right, but this buyer looks legit.

Like they always say in the movies: "There's only one way to find out".

Just to clarify.
They don't want your domains.
They want you to order an appraisal from their partner in crime (that is, themselves). When you have paid for the appraisal you won't hear from them again, or they will say they are no longer interested.
Lame isn't it ?
But it's a real scam and downright criminal operation that has been going on for years.

They don't want your domain name, they want you to pay for an appraisal. Delete and move on.

Did his email look a little something like this?

Have you had your domain names evaluated in the past? I mean domain appraisals. Without valuation we cannot be sure in the sale price. It's very important for me in terms of reselling too. But we must engage a valuation company with REAL manual service. So I will only accept valuations from independent sources I and my partners trust.

To avoid mistakes I asked domain experts about reputable appraisal companies. Please check this blog with suggestions from other sellers and buyers:
http://www.thenamepros.com/Archive/964725093.htm

Do you sell domain with a web site or just the name?

Domain without content is ok with me. Web site is not necessary.
If, for example, the valuation comes higher you can adjust your asking price accordingly. It will be fair. I also hope you can give me 12% - 15% discount.

After you send me the valuation via email (usually it takes 1-2 days to obtain it) we'll continue our negotiations.

What is your preferred payment method: Escrow.com, International wire transfer, PayPal.com or something else?

Hope we can come to an agreement fast.

Looking forward to your reply.

this is definitely the appraisal scam

moreover ...

thenamepros.com is not an actual forum ... if you search at google for ... site:thenamepros.com (for those that don't know , the "site:" command in google shows all the results from a specific domain) ... you only get about 50 results which is the same "discussion" with different names (logically because the scammer changes his name often in his emails)

if you type thenamepros.com in your browser it forwards (masked) to webhostingforum.com (logically to confuse someone that thenamepros.com is a forum)

This is a very old appraisal scam & the guy is shadowing namepros for years.
Never pay for any appraisal to any unknown firms.
