A guy who runs a software company is interested in a domain I own however wants me to give him an appraisal certificate. He says he won't trust free appraisal sites and wants a professional paid appraisal so he can be sure of the value of the domain.

Obviously I don't want to have to pay for an appraisal and risk the money but I guess i'll have to.

What are some good pay appraisal sites which are actually accurate (manual person appraisals, no stupid coded scripts)?

I have heard of http://www.allfordomains.com/appraise.asp but i'd like to know if there are any better sites which you recommend.

Thanks in advance.

Damn ok, thing is it's not an automated response email (actually a person replying) so this must be a good scam. :/

It's a person, but they'd accept any offer you sent them.

I said $130,000 for skoba.com and they jumped all over it. But it was the exact same email I've received in response to my crazy offers on a dozen or more names they've sent the same crap for ;)

2nd reply I got

Hope you had a nice vacation.

3,500 USD. Ok.

Do you offer a web site or domain name only? I'm mostly interested in
names.

Do you have a valuation or appraisal? I need an appraisal certificate for
domain priced in your range. I consider your name as an investment. In other
words I'm going to sell your name later and make a profit. If I overpay I
won't be able to make a profit in the future. It's very important for you
and me to know the current market value of your domain.

Of course, we must be sure that you are engaging a reputable appraisal
company. Please note that I don't trust free or cheap appraisals.

To avoid mistakes I asked domain experts about reputable appraisal companies
in a forum

Juck check this posting.

After I verify an appraisal from you we'll continue our negotiations.

Looking forward to your reply.

A reputable appraisal company will only be one they are asociated with. Allfordomains always seems to be associated with these scams. Coincidence? I would assume not. I have also seen this forum dialog before. One thing to consider. If he really does own a software company don't you think he would have some idea there is no real method to value a domain name?

I don't think there is such a thing as a reputable appraisal company...
