Someone offered me low $xxx for aboutpopebenedict.com but wants me to spend at least $50 on a manual appraisal. Is this normal? Do I need to foot the bill or is he suppose to do it? To be honest, I'm not sure what it's worth and I don't have a lot of domains to appraise and can't justify the cost of doing just one (versus getting a bulk discount).

Thanks,
Nate

Smells like an appraisal scam. Just do a search on any domain name related site for 'appraisal scam' and you'll learn all about it. Very common scam. They are probably the owners or affiliates of the appraisal company. Once you get the appraisal, they say never mind on the name, and you're $50 poorer.

Yes, it’s pretty much the norm in this industry…For an appraisal scam.

Let me ask you a question, if you wanted a domain name for whatever reason, would you need some fly by night company to tell you what it’s worth? It’s worth what it’s worth because you need it not because of what someone says it should be priced.

Don't even reply if you feel it's an appraisal scam. You wouldn't reply to a spam email offering you FR33 V|/\Gr/\, would you? Might be some sort of harvesting script just collecting email addresses as well.

Good luck

This guy has been looking out recently for people asking for appraisals, and has then done a Whois on the domain to get the contact email address.

Yeah, I sent him an e.mail yesterday, asking him to pay for the appraisal but I would knock that amount off the final sale price. Not even a response!

Sellers beware!!!!
