Loosing domains due to Registrar Error

Has anyone ever lost a domain name due to registrar error? I recently had a batch of domains renewing Godaddy and after sending my rep the ones that I wanted to renew he sent me an email saying “DONE”. Several months later I was doing a little surfing at Sedo and saw a domain, that I thought I owned, for sale. Much to my surprise, I no longer owned this domain. When I checked the list I had sent over for renewals two month prior I found another name on there that had not been renewed as well. The net result was that I lost two valuable names that I had a renewal confirmation from Godaddy.

Initially when I brought this to the attention of my rep he took the position that if Godaddy had made a mistake they would make it right. However they later came back with the following two excuses not to provide me any compensation: 1) I had renewed the name in the grace period after it expired; 2) I had not caught there error for several months and if I had caught it before they could have gotten my name back.

Does anyone think that I am out of line to be bent out of shape about this or am I missing something?

I lost an important domain thanks to RegFly (quite a few of them, actually). It happens :|

The least you can do is persist with Go Daddy to examine the issue closely to
see if it can somehow be salvaged. But if you weren't charged for renewing,
or you were but eventually refunded, then I'm sorry to say that's about it.

Many people have experience losing domains at Registery Fly. The only place I've lost out on a domain is at GoDaddy. This happened on two different occasions where I was looking to purchase a domain from a seller. Each of the sellers could not remember their login information, although the domain was in their account and the whois was in their name. GD refused the sellers' repeated requests to restore the domain to the sellers' control. The sellers' provided all of their contact information and proof of ownership, yet GD's ineptitude and bureaucratic BS caused both of the domains to be lost (expire). This is my main beef with GD, as I lost out on two domains that were easily worth $x,xxx each.

With what your saying, I would recommend taking this up with the Office of the President. They are the highest support staff and have basically endless permissions. They are the ones who you want to be dealing with to resolve an issue which was clearly your reps mistake.

Was this a rep in the Executive Accounts department? If so, I would also recommend speaking to their supervisor. Continue to escalate the issue through GoDaddy until you come to an ammicable resolve. Honestly, dont be unrealistic in asking for compensation, figure out what is appropriate and see if they will give it to you.

Somebody stole a domain from me at eNom and they would never answer the question how a domain which was still locked AFTER the transfer happened got transfered. It's a bug in their system which they call a "feature".

cool. thanks for starting this thread. i think i learn something new everyday at namepros.

i was just wondering, i have some domains under GD now. and will i lose them if someone had backordered on them, but i want to renew these domains a month before expiry.
will i lose these domains as well.

and i think domain losses should be made a sticky, so as to get some big firms attention

Both of these incidents happened before I had an account exec assigned to me. My current account rep is a pretty stand up guy who I trust, however, he is still hamstringed by GD's bureacratic rules/regs.

It is also fair to note that these domains were never mine. I was attempting to purchase these domains from unsophisticated third parties. No GD rep was willing to be on a three way call with the seller and me to work out the situation (which I understand to some extent). The trouble is that had these domains been at a different registrar like Enom or Moniker, I don't believe I would have had any problem getting the domains as the customer service reps at these companies have more latitude to help clients.

The bottom line is:
renew your domains b4 they expire. Don't wait till they expire/grace period. Cheers

If your comment was directed at me, I can tell you the domains could not be renewed because the sellers could not get into the accounts. Moreover, even though both sellers were willing to pay renewal fees, GD refused to renew the domains until the sellers had access to the domains. See the problem? The sellers couldn't get access to the domains as GD was unhelpful. Moreover, GD had a conflict of interest as both domains ended up dropping at TDNAM and garnering very healthy sales (much higher than the agreed on sales price that I had previously secured).

Note, both of these issues drug out for weeks. It was not like this was a couple of days...
