Having a problem transfering a domain that is about to expire...

if it expires can i still transfer it to a different registrar or will i then have to reregister it with the registrar it was with.

I don't know whether i can name the registrar but they are cauing all sorts of problems, my guess in attempt to stop me from transferring.

The Problem: my transfer was rejected as the domain was not showing ANY whois details in the whois. i phoned up and details appeared in whois straight away, later the 2nd transfer had still not gone through as they had Rejected the transfer for no apparent reason... i phoned at tech support at not in today.
now the whois details have disappeared again, just showing registered with XX.com

i don't know what ICANN would think of this? :talk:

Unfortunately this DOES happen w/ many registrars if not all.
And I have seen transfers initially fail because for some reason,
the new registrar's systems are unable to read the domain's
WHOIS database to know the administrative contact's email
address to send the authorization.

If the domain's about to expire, it's risky to try again. I hate
to say this but you may have to renew with your current
registrar.

Once done, though, and you repeat the process, your domain's
registration terms will carry over to the new one.

BTW, who's the registrar you're having problems with? Can you
specify what the Registrar said that caused the rejection?

I assume you mean the registration time i have with domain is carried over.

Reading through ICANN it sounds like they are not interested in "customer complaints" as they only deal with the "technical" side of internet domains. hmmm
I thought it was ICANNs responsibility to make sure the whois data is correct. Isn't them who keep sending emails saying that you should have the data correct in the whois blah de blah (when you first register a domain that is).
But then they not interested if registrars are not following policy set by them. Bit pointless setting policies if they won't/can't/don't enfore them?
Large, Pointless and expensive organisations like that really get up my nose.
i bet its the taxpayer who has to pay for it.

the registrar in question is "ar.com"

Hi

ok now there not answering the phone or email, to try to see why i was rejected.
In anycase i understood it should of transferred before.
The whois seems to be workin now, but i suspect that they'll reject again anyway. One more try before the name expires...

Really the registrar can continue to reject transfer away requests and there's not a whole lot you can do. Sounds like you'll probably end up having to renew with them and try for the next year to transfer out.

Please feel free to publically say who they are so others can avoid them. I refuse to do business with any registrar that will hold domains hostage by making it difficult or impossible to transfer away.

yep! its nothing but PURE blackmail on the net. there is no reason that a registrar prevent a transfer.

list their name here!! it will be a warning to all!

I will inform them further that their company name will go down the drain
as you post in ALL domain forums.

good internet companies will bend over back to please customers!
i not sure why this particular guys are making it difficult for you!!:(

the problems on all forums.

Hi Marty!

Just got back. Interesting thing about that registrar you gave:
I can't access their site right now. :lala:

That's right. If you renew for 1 year w/ your current registrar,
that year will be carried over to your new one.

However, that depends if your new registrar will be able to
record it using the records from the losing one. But I don't see
any reason why it shouldn't happen since the Registry allows
this.

BTW, did you get their auth email yet? If so, how does it
instruct you to confirm it?

Here's what I found based on ICANN's & Internic.net's site:

Alice's Registry, Inc.
704 Almar Avenue
Santa Cruz, California 95060
United States
1-831-423-8155
[email protected]

I won't be surprised if their phone &/or email's not working,
though. >:(

Another registrar potentially going down, perhaps?

Just out of curiousity is the expiration date of your domain more then 30 days away? If its not then the rejection could be standard procedure. If it is then I'm sorry and I wish you the best.
