Has anyone ever lost a domain name due to registrar error? I recently had a batch of domains renewing Godaddy and after sending my rep the ones that I wanted to renew he sent me an email saying βDONEβ. Several months later I was doing a little surfing at Sedo and saw a domain, that I thought I owned, for sale. Much to my surprise, I no longer owned this domain. When I checked the list I had sent over for renewals two month prior I found another name on there that had not been renewed as well. The net result was that I lost two valuable names that I had a renewal confirmation from Godaddy.
Initially when I brought this to the attention of my rep he took the position that if Godaddy had made a mistake they would make it right. However they later came back with the following two excuses not to provide me any compensation: 1) I had renewed the name in the grace period after it expired; 2) I had not caught there error for several months and if I had caught it before they could have gotten my name back.
Does anyone think that I am out of line to be bent out of shape about this or am I missing something?
