Until now, all my domain sales has been inbound and direct auction sales. The reasons is because I have never been a fan of "Outbound" domain marketing. It's pretty odd for me sending emails to total strangers, asking them to buy my domain.

Then decided to try it this month, send few emails to relevant prospects. One replied, offered me $400 for my five letter hand registered domain that is about to expire. I countered with $1,400. Finally we agreed on $850 and completed the transaction same night. The whole thing took place last Saturday and the money got to my account yesterday.

Perhaps I should try it one more time? :xf.grin:

    sounds like great sale.

usually however (on average) outbound is more difficult... and time and effort consuming than what you describe. which is why most domainers never attempt it... or quit trying sooner than later.

The first time I tried something similar to out bounding was here at Namepros when I contacted few guys I guess were domain investors, offered to sell off my portfolio of 4L.com when I needed money desperately. Instead of a response, one of them reported me to the moderator.

@alcy I didn't mention any price, just a mild request that I'm reaching out to know if they can buy my .... names.

Congrats on the outbound sale! :)

Care to share the email you send (edit out the names obviously)?

Congrats for the sale. Care to share the template and if the name was similar to a name they were using? :)

Thank you @Abdullah Abdullah . Yes, the name was similar to the one they were using. In fact, they were using the .co.uk while I have the dot com. Could have got more but they are just small web development company. So I decided to let it go at that price when they could not come up any further.

I really don't use generic templates. I always compose my email according to the business I'm contacting and the circumstances. That makes my outbound a little more difficult

Excellent, And that's exactly what works in outbound, as in any sales proposition connecting with potential buyers requires effort. These requests for 'Templates' always lose me, there isn't such a workable thing. As in any sales message, If you want to connect to the masses, then keep it short. However, if your targeting, then connect with an identifiable need. Those of us that have spent time in any sales realize that it's no different from selling washing-machines. Different customers have different needs and priorities If you can connect into their mindset your half-way to completing a sale.

There is definitely NO one size fits all

    Yeah, perhaps.... :-P

But seriously, even though outbound is a pain in the ass, it can bring in extra money while waiting for inbound, also its the only way to sell some domains as some people will never come looking, they need to be led to drink from the domain trough.

I couldn't agree with you less. Serious (result oriented) marketing requires serious efforts. And there seems to be no credible shortcut.
