I’ve been out of the game for a long time, are three character domains still in fashion

Around 20 years ago I used to do some trading of domains, but I gradually stopped around 2007/08 as I went to Uni and got stuck into real life.
Back then three letter and three character dot coms were pretty popular, and I held onto two domains, Ry6.com and Ry7.com (purely out of vanity)…and I’m wondering if I should just let them expire or are they still worth anything?

Thanks for your input!
Ry

Definitely do not let them drop (expire) unless you don't mind throwing away min. $xxx and likely more.

Until recently these type names would do well on Godaddy user auctions, but those are no more. However, recently Dynadot has started a marketplace including User Auctions. I am testing the waters, so to speak, with a CCC.com of my own, within the past 24 hours before just now seeing your post. There are, of course, numerous other marketplaces to investigate and maybe join.

Welcome back! And best of luck.

I somehow missed that Ry is your name. Then why let the domain go?

Thanks! I'll head over to dynadot and check it out...
Its mostly just that I've had them for god knows how many years and have done nothing with them, they just cost me the $15 or whatever it is every year to renew and I'll probably forget one day and let them drop for nothing

Three-letter .com domains remain valuable, consider selling or holding them.

I paid almost $2k for a LLN.com domain.

Arguably that wasn't the best decision. Though I don't exactly regret it.

Transfered over to dynadot and listed just now on their auction!
Wish me luck

Don't know if there's a delay or a glitch with your 2 listings as mentioned in your original posting.

When visiting those domains by typing them in the location bar, the page on Dynadot says in red:

can not find listing, please try again later

Edit: it's working now.

Can I be honest? Your post makes no sense. You've been paying renewal fees on 2 domains for over 20 years and now you're suddenly considering to let them drop? Why would you do that? Wouldn't you at least total your registration and renewal fees and list them for that first as a minimum to try and recoup your investment?

I'm just gonna put it out there. I'm no fan of dynadot. I wish you every success with the auction, but I prefer the no commission brokers like domainAlot.

Why you have new account on NP's if you have 20 years exp?
I got here an account as soon I began learning domaining, edit: one year later from December 2019.

Wow. I don't know if it's a lot of paranoia here or bad XP, but I didn't realise if you didn't join a community related to what you do for a living then it's an issue... or even a thing? I flipped my first domain in '96 and have been doing it ever since. Worst year 5, best year 13. I don't say that makes me a professional, but I've made enough to survive.

I'm happy you made an account here as soon as you began learning "domaining"... which I assume is how to value/ sell domains either as one-offs, a side-hustle, or a living? There wasn't platforms like this back in the day. No Quora's... no Reddits. You learnt as you went. Simple as. I joined NPs thinking this might be fun. I might learn something new, because the last year or so it's getting lean and the .AI wave is really unlike anything I've experienced with respect to volume and valuations and it is absolutely affecting my income. I even thought I might be able to contribute something. That's my take on communities. Give and Take. But I'm good to go if I refer to anything other than GoDaddy or SEDO or if I have to even justify why I'm here. Seriously? Side note: not that's it really your concern, but the reason I'm slow joining after thinking about doing so last year was I suffered a retinal detachment. but anyway.... this post was from a guy who has been out of the game for 20 years... who is also a new member... just saying.

For the record, I think they sold for just a bit over $600 apiece.
