Is Sedo Stealing Your Traffic???

I am not making an accusation, just reporting an observation.

I have a domain that was parked at Name Drive through March, April and May 2006. I moved it to Sedo for the month of June.

The domain has very steady natural traffic.

March 2006 - 8207 unique visitors.

April 2006 - 9218 unique visitors.

May 2006 - 8568 unique visitors.

However the month at Sedo produced only 4756 unique visitors.

Traffic is traffic. It should not make any difference where it is parked.

I guess the test is to move it back to Name Drive for a month and see if traffic returns to normal.

could it be the way each records traffic? Hits vs. uniques? Actual browser visits vs. bots & spiders? I don't know, I'm just asking.

That's probably the answer however, last I heard, ND was filtering out more bot traffic than Sedo.

To the OP, email them both and ask how they calculate their traffic. As Mark says it'll probably just be a different way of counting the traffic/filtering traffic rather than stealing :imho:

depends on the parking companies traffic filter as to how much traffic they are blocking and not accepting as legitimate traffic, the better test is revenue, park the same exact domains at different parking companies for a month or 2 test and see which company provides the most revenue for you, parking is about generating revenue on your domains, so if company A shows less traffic but you are making more revenue than company B showing more traffic I would rather be with company A or whoever provides the most income as the less traffic may just be a sign that they are blocking useless bot traffic, I would rather see 5,000 hits that convert instead of 10,000 hits that don't.

you have found the answer for a few happy users, I see others in that thread are not as happy, unless you have the same exact domain names as those users the only way to know is to park all of your domain names at each parking company for a month and see where each of your domain names does best at.

Fabulous is still the best, though you need to have a nice portfolio to get accepted into their premium parking program. Still, I made over $2,300 last month and wouldn't make half that on either Namedrive or Sedo. That said, I still park names at Sedo and/or Afternic if I want to sell them instead of make parking revenues.

Crooky,

Is that $2300 casino type names? 'Cause I have about 100 there and it's not doing that great...Where I had traffic and clicks at ND, not so much at Fabulous. I don't know if ND is better at optimizing or what?

SedoPro Parking is also much better than standard sedo parking. The parking pages don't look like PPC pages, you can customize the links not only by the domain, but by country, and you can see stats of clicks by keyword and country. You do have to have to meet some minimum requirements though (I think $200 mo. in income or 200+ Quality domain portfolio.). You also have to be invited. If you think you meet those qualifications, PM me a link to your portfolio with your email and I'll see about sending an invitation. Here is what a proparking page looks like in a couple formats.

The "popular search" terms at the top/side are customizable

I have some domains parked at fabulous and some at sedo. Sedo does much better at non-dotcom domains and I get more offers parked there. Fabulous seems to have higher PPC rates on dot-com domains, but less click througn on others. Sedo has worked better for me with info/biz/us/org

With ref to Sedo traffic. I had a .DE with Sedo and was receiving about 300-400 hits per month on the name, no $$$. Have moved over to PARKED.COM not 1 hit in 45 days!!!! How does this work????

200th post!!!

I don't think it has anything to do with bot clicks because it was averaging a 52% click conversion at name Drive. If the Name Drive traffic included bot hits then the real click conversion compared to sedo would be an almost impossibly high 100%.

Not impossibly high, but scandalously low...imho

I have yet to hear a reasonable explanation from anyone...let alone a Sedo rep who I know exists on this board... _\|/_

I've had names at Sedo with clickthrough of over 50% that was definitely not bot traffic. The problem I've always had there wasn't clickthrough but $/click.

mc, they are casino/poker type names, mostly typos, and I've always had nice high clickthrough there. I like their pages too...can you give an example of a Namedrive casino page? I might try them out if it looks good enough. They've been pathetic for my former proxy sites though, less than 50 cents a day while Fab was doing about $2 a day. Clickthrough INSANELY low on those names at Namedrive...if they really do always work at optimizing names, then they're doing a poor job at those ones.

not currently using anyone for parking, but I do have most of my domains set up at sedo, namedrive and parked just in case I decide to later.

Sedo vs ND

I'm Sedo and ND user working at Europe.

After trying both, in my case, I have to resume that ND gives you more $/click, but in the other hand the Click/visit is less then Sedo, using similar templates, the same keywords and being the ads very similar or the same in some cases.

After 2 months I don't have it very clear, because i won the same money. So i believe that ND gives you more $/click but it is artificial, i mean, if you think the problem of your revenue is the % of clicks repect the visits and not the revenue per click you will be 'happy', but if you have a good % of clicks and the revenue per click is low, as it could be happening with sedo sometimes, you will move your portfolio to ND.

Have someone experience the same?

yea, i moved my domains to namedrive because they offer more clicks for value.

but i still park some as the market there is larger. more people buy domain there :)

I don't know if they are "stealing traffic" but their performance seems to have dropped drastically since April on all my domains.

I used to get over 5000 views pm with the views climbing each month before but since April it has dropped each month down to 1330 views pm :'(

Click rate is a little better - but not much - Revenue is worse !

Anyone else having a similar problem ?

I had a poker domain parked at NameDrive. It recieved 6 hits in June and 1 hit in July up to the 28th. I decided to try Parked.com late one evening and when I woke was surprised to see that particular domain had like 13 uniques. I have it parked at Sedo now because I want to sell it. Only been parked there really 2 1/2 days. Looks like it should easily do 1800 to 2000 uniques a month. Question is, where the hell were all those uniques at NameDrive. I know I can't be getting 99% bot traffic as NameDrive filters bots. Thing is I was going to let that domain drop. And a promissing Poker domain at that
