Is it possible to get a "pending delete" domain?

There was a domain that I was eyeing up that was in the pending delete state. When I searched it on pool.com it showed that it would become available on Oct 3 (not sure how accurate this is).

All day Oct 3 I would continually check and it was never available. When I checked the domain on pool that day it wasn't found at all.

Did one of the expired registrars (snapjet, pool, etc) just snag it before I did?

Is it even possible to get a domain thats pending delete or is any semi-decent domain going to be grabbed before I have a chance?

It's only possible to get a good pending delete by backorder. I suggest placing multiple backorders if you really want it.

Check the whois - and you will have your answer of where the domain ended up.

If the domain has been backordered by others at any of the major dropcatchers, then you really have no chance of hand-registering it yourself.
