.info Is .info dead?

Is .info dead..

I never see any sites really anymore that utilize this extensions. Is there a significance of potential profit in .info's.

IMHO, I was never really a fan of the .info extension, never really saw a point in it. Most of the .infos i seen are parked pages. I think out of the hundred of domains i owned i only owned 2 .infos

I am just curious to know because I really dont here much correspondance on them. I might regg one for the h*ll of it. (wasting money)

Registrations, renewal, # of domains are the stats that speak for any TLD, and registrars too. the STATS show .info is a big competitor. It speaks for itself. ALso, until those "new" TLDs prove themselves to be anything worth the world's while, i will consider them diseased goods. Just like .biz, its here, but has little respect. Hype really hurts this indusry. People are always looking for some bandwagon to jump on, even though the "hype" hasn't lived up...turns into extra $$$ for people like ICann and "sunrise" reggers, etc.

i sure am reading some crap on this thread ..... this had been a good year for .info , if you check out dnjournal each week there are good sales!!!!!

The new extensions will not affect .info one way or another , do you have the money for one of these new extensions ????? doubt it !!!!!

Ok, understand and totally agree but READ my post closely and it implies about the FUTURE not now.

.INFO represents information right, and yes any grasshopper would recognize that. Once these new extensions come into play then information becomes personalized and segmented into niche markets.

The overall viability of the WEB is based on information and the fact that .info as a stand alone extension has not really found it's place, is a concern. I too have invested in this extension but found that it's just a wasted space. Ofcourse, there will be sites that return some income and are viable but overall, as far as GEOS and other informative products are concerned, it's GOODNIGHT IRENE. I understand people have invested and make money from this but it astounds me as to the naivity and overall narrow mentality, of mainstream domainers.

Bottom line is that the web is a controlled enviroment and what's here today can be gone tomorrow.

.info extension is not dead. There are many sites, existing yet with .info extensions!

The high cost of implementing one of the new extensions will put them out of reach of any but the most well heeled or big corporations.. I don't think we'll have to worry about them in general. Not many of us can afford $100k minimum for such a venture, not to mention the infrastructure you'd need in place for support. Won't affect .info in any case :IMHO:

Exactly mellow Im a fan, as I have said before, because they are cheap, and usually fit the purpose. For example one of my mini sites is American - History [dot] info

I think it fits it perfectly

.info is imho in the same place it has always been...a developers extension because of it's cheap entry cost. If you want to experiment with a domain or development idea .info is fine. Good keywords developed can do very well. It's a domain. Domains are INTENDED FOR DEVELOPMENT. This idea by domainers that an extension is dead based on no parking revenue or resale value is amusing. More domainers need to get out more. Developing a .info isn't any different than developing a .com. .info imho has some general community acceptance by developers and end-users.

For domainers it may not be the best investment and that's reality.

does it have the might of .com/.net or .org to stand the introduction of upcoming extensions? I doubt it.

When I was getting .info's for 1.99 it wasn't too bad. $2 bucks to hold it for a year and see what happens. When it's the same price as .com's and actually more than .net and .org (at my registrar) I have started buying less and less

Im cheaper than you are I was loving it and buying lots when they were 99 cents over at GD. Now they are back to $2, so im a bit more pickey

Even at 99 cents, a year rolls by quickly, you look at the 7 cents the domain has earned at SEDO and realize that you could have done better with your money.

I went kinda crazy last year with infos, sold a bit so I am not in too bad shape, but I will dump 90% of them. The test drive is helpful and I guess I am going to end up with some good domains, but it is hard to sell info. I wish I had not bought so freely.

*IF* all these new extentions were going to be available at normal registration fees and in reach of everyday people I may agree but at the price suggested, I doubt they will have much if any impact on extentions including .info.

I have followed the drop names for .info for a while now and I can say that yes much crap is dropped daily but fewer and fewer one word, geos, good two words etc drop now and if they do, much more difficult to pick up.

I really dont think so. Many .info sites are getting developed in the last one year. I have developed http://www.taxreport.info and http://www.secretgallery.info
