Depends

half glass full or half glass empty

you find google.co.in and yahoo.co.in
you will see ebay.in

and more important that what domains you have more - in or co.in :)

.co.in is undoubtedly more popular than .in currently, but a lot of people believe that .in will catch up in the coming months and years.

The Indian Registry has given signs that it will start to push .in over .co.in

.in is naturally superior to .co.in, although the latter had a headstart -- .in is intuitive and well-poised to become the future of Indian domains.

No.. You guys have it all wrong.. YOU THINK .IN is going to catch up because its shorter and looks better but the fact is India is accustomed to .co.in ..

You will see that almost all India based companies use .co.in!

Cbse.in (REAL SITE.. 226 OVT/ext)
Cbse.co.in (PARKED PAGE.. 653 OVT/ext)

Why is this? People from India are more accustomed to .co.in and always will be... its just like .co.uk!!

The key difference is that .uk was never given as an option after a certain point -- so this isn't really a fair comparison. Sure, existing traffic on .co.in might be higher but that is a legacy effect, and surely can change. Time will tell which extension will emerge, but India is a growing economy with ongoing changes, this may very well be one of them...

My poor opinion is that .in is shorter and for sure more brandable than co.in and that is why in a short period of time .in will be stronger. Above this the last investements in LLL.in will push the market.

try www.ebay.co.in

Many companies use .co.in b/c it was the first mover -- migration to .in may occur, and that is the primary question (preeminence of .co.in currently is understood)

Nope! Please compare search results in google "site:in" and "site:co.in"
CO.IN is very unpopular.

To continue this thread we have a few unanswered questions before you buy a co.in

1. Is LLL and NNN's good to have (That mean something like a name "sue")?
2. If you have a name like sue.co.in is it worth something in english?
3. What is the best place sell domain like this.
4. Are they quick sellers?
5. Does anyone know how many they have left?

Just a few question i'm sure we all want to know before you but one.

Oh and another thing. I do agree with that .in's are not worth your time. I have had one for auction and no one even bid on it. So if you know someone wanting i'm ready to dump it for what it's worth. It's K-9.in

Thanks

WITHIN INDIA .co.in is still more popular than .in, and who knows...it may ALWAYS be that way. Overall though, .in is definitely more popular than .co.in, and I think when more and more Indian companies seek an international audience to their site, .in will gain more and more ground within India.

.in is catching up big time in india. Some of the well known companies have ditched their .co.in domains for a .in domain and promoting it

still i think .co.in is more popular than .in

It is alomst 2 yrs and still co.in is more comman than .in

I know many names where co.in has more hits than .in

so answer is simplle thatn co.in is better choice

but i say you register both :)

1.) Domainers like .in and think it will catch on because its shorter and easier
2.) Companies in India are accustomed to .co.in and won't simply be bothered to migrate over to .in

Conclusion:
Who knows whats going to happen, invest in both, wait out for the long run :tu:
