Well, whois.sc actually since domaintools currently doesn't show the WHOIS
history of my blog domain name. Oh well, I'll give them time.

FYI, whois.sc is "rebranding" themselves as domaintools.

Anyway, I logged inside whois.sc to lookup my blog domain's WHOIS history.
As some of you know, it normally doesn't show the domain's lock status.

But here's the observation: I clicked on the last WHOIS update it captured...
and it showed the lock status! My domain's currently here at namepros.

It seems whois.sc doesn't capture the lock status of the domain name if it's
with a registrar. But it will show it if the domain's with a reseller.

Interesting...

Actaully, they do capture locked status for non-resellers as well as resellers. It's right at the end of the first section and says...

Status: REGISTRAR-LOCK

It shows for namecheap, godaddy, and fabulous names that I checked.

In the actual whois area (the second section), it does not show for godaddy or fabulous .COMs. Only for namecheap (a reseller). Also, I check for a .COM bought through a GD/WWD reseller and it also does not show in the whois area either. Just in the first section. So I guess it might jsut have something to do with how enom and other regs send such info.

However, it does for .ORG domains I have checked before that were bought through GD. It will show "CLIENT TRANSFER PROHIBITED" which I believe is just the .ORG registry's way of saying "locked" (but I could be wrong about that). This goes for another TLD, too, but I can't remember which one. It might be .US or .BIZ.

Also, whois.sc shows the locked status of all domains you put in your monitoring list. Look at the domains in your monitoring list. If it is locked, there will be a little closed padlock icon beside it. If unlocked, then the padlock will be open and slightly a lighter shade of grey, too, I think.

Actually I'm just referring to the WHOIS history lookup since it's a very useful
tool. You're probably right, ebooklover, that it's dependent on how the data
was submitted by the registrar that time.

I used it again to lookup my blog domain davezan.com, originally with name.
com. But it still didn't show the lock status 'til I saw the last WHOIS entry.

On the other hand, it makes sense it'll show for .org since the .org Registry is
a "thick" Registry, meaning it shows both technical and social contact data.
The .com/.net Registry is "thin", it shows only the tech details.

Thanks, guys!
