NameCheap...BLACKLISTED!!!!???

I regged a domain about a week ago. I checked the whois info at whois.sc before I regged it and whois.sc indicated that it was never regged before.

Now, today, I decided to check the whois on it and I find that whois.sc says that it was blacklisted. It appears this is the status that a domain gets when a spammer used it for spamming and is caught and reported.

So I'm baffled at this point. Whois.sc has no whois history of the domain.

Does this blacklisted status hurt the value of a domain?

Does blacklisted status hurt the domain's ability to be indexed in certain search engines?

I'm pretty pissed about this. Whois.sc, although probably the best whois service out there, lets me down frequently which is why I don't even bother to pay them for membership. :td:

I'd probably not have regged it had whois.sc told me it was regged before and has a "blacklisted" status before I regged it. From the looks of it it seems that it is very difficult, if not impossible, to get a domain UNblacklsited. Anyone know?

I'd post the domain but it's an adult domain (although it has no "bad words" in it).

Contact ICANN, see what they could do

ICANN is not the one who blacklists as far as I can see.

Just curious. What about MSN?

=============================

I have been trying to find something about this blacklisted status using the search function but I have not been able to find anything. I figured that surely this subject was tackled before here on NP. But maybe not?

UPDATE!!!

Upon further investigation, I found out that it isn't the domain that is blacklisted. Apparently it is the server that it is hosted on that is blacklisted. It is currently being hosted on Namecheap's servers as I am not using it.

So, I checked all of my domains that I bought from NameCheap and sure enough, EVERY SINGLE DOMAIN I REGGED AT NAMECHEAP IS LISTED AS "BLACKLISTED" on WHOIS.sc. HOWEVER, only the ones that are parked at NC. THe ones that are parked elsewhere or that are hosted on a server with a site are NOT listed as BLACKLISTED in WHOIS.sc.

But I still don't know what this means.

Can anyone help out here. Please check your NC regged domains to see if they have the blacklisted status on WHOIS.sc. Please let us know if that site is just parked at NC or if it is parked with someone else or if it is developed and hosted on a host's server.

Hopefully we can get to the bottom of this blacklisted status business.

I think this is a problem you will find more and more as we go along. The war on spam is useless in it's current form. Most of the services don't update their information and cases such as this will be more and more common. With the spammers now utilizing compromised scripts and other peoples domains more and more innocent bystanders will get caught in the crossfires. And there's nothing anyone can do about it because these spamcops are all unregulated, underfunded and in my mind just as damaging as the spammers themselves. Even google from what I can tell (and they have zone file access) doesn't delist deleted names. Godaddy with it's freeze an account, charge a fee and ask questions later is another example.

This is interesting. Prehaps namecheap as 2 IPs, one is blacklisted, one is not, which may explain why some sites are not blacklisted and others are.

so true!
I had recently 3 sites hacked and used by spammers (I would say I hate them , but is not enough!) And I risked to have my account closed.
I also am always afraid to have a site blacklisted, even if I don't perform any bad or illegal activity, but spammers do!

Nope. peterstannard made a mistake. First he said they wer not blacklisted but then he edited his post to remove the "not'. They are both blacklisted and both hosted by NC.

I just PMed Michael K. from NC and asked him to chime in on this thread. Let's wait and see. I am not as bothered by this seeing how as long as I host it with another host it will not have the blacklist status, but I still would like to know what this all means.

Looks like all the Namecheap (Enom reseller) IPs are blacklisted because when I use my own IPs on a domain registered with Namecheap its fine and is not backlisted. So when you change to your hosts IPs your blacklisted status should be removed.

You're right. It's not just NC domains but rather any domain regged through and ENOM reseller perhaps...

http://whois.sc/onlineauctionresources.com

Anyone have an ENOM domain not regged at NC that has a blacklisted status on WHOIS.sc? Maybe some of you that own an NP regged domain that is not parked elsewhere can check? Even you RegFly users should be able ot help here.

none of my names at namecheap have blacklisted status at whois.sc but then they are nearly all parked on my own hosting.

Thats why then. It appears to just be ones that are using Namecheap (or Enom's) IPs for parking or redirecting.

Any word yet on why this happened?

strange.
I just checked some domains that I have at namecheap, and indeed they are blacklisted.
something should be done about this.

P.S.
It now looks like ALL domains at ENom (directly parked) are also listed!!!

But be aware that it is not the domain that is blacklisted but rather the Enom server where they are parked. Once you host it on a non-blacklisted domain, even if you are just parking at, say, SEDO, the blacklisted status is emoved (unless that server happens to be blacklisted, too).

Looks like somehow the ENOM server was tagged as a server used to send spam.

I just wonder if a domain buyer would look at this as a negative thing and therefore decrease the value of the domain in some people's eyes?

some domains I leave at Enom and dont want to park at Sedo.
Of course, an end user seeing the blacklisted status will be discouraged...

I am surprised that the entire Enom server IPs have been blacklisted.

What are the adverse affects of being "blacklisted"? I haven't ever heard of such a thing happening before.
