Hello everybody.

My dilemma is rather simple, and I'm hoping your comments will swing me one way or another.
I'm sure many of you are familiar with MIDANO.com Domain Toolkit
I'm thinking about making each tool available with a "Add this tool to your site" option (simple hosted script solution - you cut/paste an input form code into your page, the input is being processed on midano side and the output is fed back into iFrame within your page). Sort of what Kenni's doing with iwebtool.
Questions:
  • will this add value to www.midano.com?
  • will this increase the server load, but not necessarily drive traffic to Midano.com?
  • should I force a "Powered by Midano.com" link into the output?
  • should I just open it up for everyone or pre-screen the candidates to make sure that the presence is professional?
  • maybe I should introduce a co-branding option?
  • should I mature the toolkit into a site of its own under a separate domain as I continue developing new tools?
Thanks in advance, all opinions appreciated.

Leo.

it will infact increase the server load.. everything hosted off of that server will increae it.

i would add a cobarnding feature
it might drive traffic option if u include a link back on the file.

Yes it will add value to the domain.. Everything you do to that site that modifiys it in a goodway will add value..

as templaterave suggests cobranding is probably your best bet.

Make sure there is a link back to your site so that people can get to it easy enough. You could always think about offering a pay for service at a later date which wouldnt be co branded which could compensate you for your resource usage.

I think it would be a good idea as long as:

You force a link to Midano.com, and keep it as simple as possible in order to decrease server load. The fact is, even if you weren't making money from it, if you have 10,000 people using the service, it would add massive value to your site.

well it sounds like a good idea ...

yes it'll increase the traffic, only if the link back is there. It'll definately increase your domain value as well as server load :)

Hi Deet.
Are you familiar with the concept of comparison shopping? PriceGrabber, Shopping.com, Froogle, PriceRunner? Midano.com is the same concept applied exclusively to domain industry. It's not a link farm and it's not a directory. It's a combination of comparison shopping and PPC. Reviews, ratings, tools and interviews are the bonuses.
Anyway, this is not the point of this thread.

Add value: - shure 100%
Server load: - YES, but not that much
Powered by: - possible
Cobranden: - YES best solution
Mature: - Not really

My experience:
I did this in 1998 with a GLOBAL WHOIS tool to drive traffic to my registrar.
http://www.targetdomain.com/cgi-bin/whois.cgi?
So far this little awfull designed tool drove me nearly 1000000 visitos to my page, and a conciderable amount of sales ;)
This remembers me that I need a redesign and add. functions asap.

Good luck
