Hello fellow Forum members.

Ive been reading about domaining for a good month or so now and feel i am ready to purchase my first domain. Yay. I want to get into domaining to make some extra cash, however i am wise enough to realise its not the route to instant riches etc. (what is? ha)

If you were starting off with a small bankroll (£100) what would you do?

The main question i would like to be answered would be... What is the best site to reg domains with? and why? the price? service? etc.

So if you had to start again what would you do differently?

It's been a fun ride for me but I am not sure knowing what I know now... if I would do it again

depends on your goals, if you are trying to sell to end users then only buy domains that describe a commercial product or service with searched keywords that end user buyers would like to own, if you plan on developing a good domain helps but unique content is king, best advice I can give is a small portfolio of gold is better than a large portfolio of silver, good luck.

Choose one topic you are passionate about and search intensely for an exact match domain in an alternative TLD (preferably .Net but doubt you would get a good .COM for that price) with considerable search volume which you can develop into a business. Advertise in the Domains Wanted section, look for drops and approach current domain holders.

thanx for the replies.

Im planning on hand registering a few at first, ive extensively searched for good (imo) domains and am ready to buy. Thats why im looking for advice on where to buy abd to sell, thebest rates etc.

Also how many exact matches is good using the google adsense tool? ive heard over 1000 exact matches p/m is decent. But ive got a few 2/3 word .coms that have 10k plus local and global exact matches. Am i on the right track?

I would start out with one or two well-researched domains, preferrably in the .COM ... and target my marketings toward End users; then paying as you go, IMHO.

Do NOT make a whole bunch of registrations, especially in new (very risky) or newer TLD's, without a firm "game plan" for selling them at their times of registration! :yell: :imho:

Lean and Mean™, as always! :snaphappy:

Most of my domains are registered with godaddy. It's very easy to transfer to other godaddy accounts when selling and everybody has a godaddy account. If you use godaddy make sure you always enter a discount code.

I have two good domains registered with a small little known company, but, but now if I ever want to sell them I 'll have to pay to get them transferred to a different account. I registered with them because they were offering low low intro rates. I would never use them again.

A few of my domains I wish I had registered with Moniker. I like the look of their showcase auctions, but if your names aren't regged with them it'll cost an extra $100.

My few thoughts

I would open a new paypal account and put the money there. This way you would never mix your own money with your initial investment. I completely lost track of finances over time. Now I don't even know whether I'm in profit or loss. I like to think I'm in profit.

Assuming you have an existing paypal account, this is what you need to do:

1. Open a new bank account. This will be needed to get your new paypal account verified in order to lift the limits which are too low. You can't use the same bank account in two different paypal accounts.

2. Open a paypal business account. Paypal doesn't allow you to have two personal accounts but you can have one personal and one business account. The good thing about a paypal business account is that it allows you to use a business name instead your first and last name. The bad thing is, there are more fees. You can of course open two personal accounts but then you run the risk of getting one or both closed down.
