If you could create your own nGTLD...

Hey all,

I'm just curious about what all of you would do with your own domain extension? I've always dreamed of starting my own one day, and I'm sure many of you have as well.

If you had the $185,000 + to create and run your own nGTLD domain extension, which name(s) would you choose and why? How much would the reg fee be? Would you reserve names? Would you price higher quality names at premium prices?

for me, I'd go with .find. Everyone on the internet is looking to find something, and .find would provide so many opportunities for web services dedicated to finding anything from apartments to zoos. Information, services, locations, everything is possible with an extension like .find.

I would expect a high volume of registrations, so I'd offer them for about $15.00. Of course I would probably list some of the better names for a premium fee, but nothing over $100.

What about you?

I have 2 that I would create, if I had the opportunity.

1: .now - ideal for news sites, deals, shopping sites, etc. I'd price standard reg fee at a fairly reasonable $13 in the theory (or the hope, anyway!) that the extension is generic enough that it would get enough reg's to make the registry profitable.

2: .gloss - ideal for luxury products, celeb fan sites, etc. It evokes luxury without sounding spammy. This one would be pretty risky I think since it's more of a niche thing, so I probably would only do it if the hypothetical .now registry took off. I'd price .gloss at a fairly low $9.99 in the theory that in addition to regular regs I'd also be trying to attract defensive regs. I think a $9.99 might make people more ready to make defensive regs here, as opposed to some of the $30+ fees that might put people off. Still, it'd be a risky registry to try to make profitable, because there would be so much market guesswork involved.

Of the two, I prefer .now

Interesting question, thanks.

If I were to register new gtld, I would have gone with .peace for the reg fee $1.00
Because this is what everybody needs to have in their life. the .peace gtld could be the most wanted gtld.

But if for some reason .peace was not available or booked already, I would have chosen .hope for the peace. :)

.Vid because it is shorter than .video which doesn't make sens at all when we all live in a mobile world!
I think all vlogers and streaming companies need a short and sweet extension!

No reserved domains but people will need to register on a website and prove that they will use the domain name legitimately. Sites would be inspected weekly to detect malware, fraud and pirated media. This will insure that .Vid sites are secure and contains only legit contents. The price would be as low as $11.49 a year.

.king is one that springs to mind .tons of hacks and is already standard domain lingo

I would reserve Burger.King and ask for $16M! Can they file a udrp agains't a reserved name? Is this considered as bad faith?

Whoops, and thanks @AMRO1001 for this info. I only checked existing TLD's, I didn't think to check the icann wiki that you mentioned. Thank you for the info! Plus, that's a useful link for me to have about other registries out there that are not live yet.
