What I can not figure is the prices some LLLL.nets are going for .
there is one on tdnam for over $200

Unless there's traffic, or it's a well known acronym.

Domains with 4-random-average letters, in anything besides .Com... that's pushing it.

3 is a completely different story, of course.

Well, let me tell you that 90% of my parked traffic comes from .nets and I have more or less the same quantity of .nets and .coms (300 each)
Also, most people/companies, etc are not willing to spend $2k-$5k in a .com, so they go for a $200-$500 .net

Easy explanation, but I don't believe in odd arguments about this.

beautiful LLLL.nets are easily sold to end-users. I own 800 LLLL.nets and 4 LLL.nets and so far I have sold zero LLL.nets and 4 LLLL.nets. Number of letters in domain names means nothing to end-user. Asking price means a lot. I can sell LLLL.net to end-user for 500$ because I can buy it at reseller market for 12$ (or even if for 50$) but if I purchased LLL.net for 1000$ on reseller market to get decent profit you will need to ask end-user 2000-3000$ and this amount of money is very rarely paid. And from recent reports not only my LLLL.nets are sold to end-users and sometimes they are sold for 1000-2000$. And it seems that there are much more LLLL.nets end-user sales than LLL.net sales

You might be stubborn in not admitting that a lot of premium LLLL.nets are better than non-premium, crappy LLL.nets.

Todays nothing-meaning random LLLL.net will become a well known acronym tomorrow. I look only at letters quality. There must be only premium letters and I prefer letters C,S,A as much as possible in the name. I also regged names with A,C,S,P,M,D + one W,V combinations - they also produce a lot of good acronyms.

About traffic. I have 800 LLLL.nets and perhaps just 10 of them will cover registration costs by traffic But I'm not in for traffic domains because I understand they are expensive, long time to covered by traffic and sometimes UDRP-risky

I don't think it's wise to register all LLLL.nets unless crappy LLLL.coms will be doing well for at least one year with positive tendency. But it's wise to registered those LLLL.nets that are acronym-friendly. Not sure that there are many such LLLL.nets but I think that there are still about 50-100 LLLL.nets that are really perspective

As to reseller market I think that fair price for a premium LLLL.net is about 50$ for today. It represents it's current real value.

I can only talk from my experience so far as its a short one with LLLL.net's. Since I picked up my quad premiums I have had about 7 inquiries in the past couple months on these alone. Some get alright traffic and clicks but nothing to write home about.

BUT the value goes hand in hand with its .com counterpart. People are wanting to register LLLL.com's but a lot are developed and if they happen to be available the price tag I am seeing is tends to be about $3500+. It pushes people to check out the .net and if you are not greedy (10%'ish) sales should occur pure and simple.

I believe you can't go wrong with premium .nets as they will hold value as long as the LLLL.com's are doing well.

Obviously registering completely random LLLL.nets is pointless, although there are many good quality ones left. Only 55% of them have been registered, so there are bargains left to be had IMHO.

There are really two ways to look at it. Both the people that say "register LLLL.net's now" and "wait until the countdown is close to being finished" make sense, it is just different strategies. If you register now, you can get higher quality LLLL.net's, the last ones to go will be the crappiest, as they are in any buyout. But, if you buy now, you are going to have to pay reg fees for several years before all the rest are bought out, so that is a tradeoff you have to make. If you look at people who bought LLLL.com's several years before the countdown was complete and bought tons of premiums, they made $x,xxx,xxx. But it took a long time. They people who buy at the very end are going to get the worst domains, which may be a risky or profitable investment itself (just look at fluctuation of LLLL.com prices this year). It is just a different strategy.

I don't know what the remaining stats are on .org or .info, but I think it's going to be a lonnnng time before those get bought out. LLLL.net will be bought out in the next couple of years, though.
