HUGE DOMAINS SNIPING GODADDY CLOSEOUTS

So annoying Godaddy hasn't stopped Huge Domains from sniping Godaddy Closeouts with their automated tools, no way a human bidder can win a even closeout.

First they were sniping with the backorders, now you cut that out, and you are letting them snipe via automated tools.

So what do you say @Joe Styler , you want to even the playing field a bit, as your partners are bidding everything in a split second, from $12, to $11, and bidding everything else into the hundreds from a simple bid. I would rather pay a Huge Domains surcharge at checkout.


Huge Domains has an unfair advantage on the auction platform, essentially taxing every user for using it with their automated access advantages given to them thru the house.

Also if you are the only bidder in close out, won't the domain go into deletion next day?

Closouts are not auctions but bargain BINs that start at $11 and decrease every day to reach $5, after that domain drops

Sorry i am a noob. How do you know it is HD. Also can you tell me some example domains that they might snipe today, if you don't mind.. I just want to see the type of domain they snipe.

This is a very long thread. And through it all it's been clearly shown that it's Huge Domains. I'm not going to document all the proof.

Because almost everytime you bid at any domain 6 mins before auction, an HD comes from nowhere.

No, not every time. Many, many times, probably most times. But not every time. I still get quite a few at $12 with one bid. Maybe 25% of them don't bring in HD.

Hey this is off-topic, but so interesting. I sold the name BYYU.com for $5,888.00 in January of this year. (I bought for $32). Now, just 7 months later it shows up on Godaddy Auctions today. I've never seen this happen so fast for such a pricey name. The buyer must have bought it, not extended expiration date, and then died.

I was just thinking, as I've been continuing to lose auctions to HD... I wonder if they are going hard now on grabbing up auctions for the purpose of beating us domainers down. To get us to feel so discouraged that we just give up. After which time they can grab domains cheaper.

its a guess but a real good guess. Out of curiosity I like seeing what people wait to bid on, here is a list of today and how long before auction end (approximate could be off by 2 minutes) the first bid was placed

I am convinced that HD is trying to buy up ALL decent names that are not the super expensive ones on Godaddy Auctions. They are winning about 90% of the auctions I'm in. I can only win if I way overbid, which I admit I did once last week just because I was pissed.

The common characteristic is that the names have (mostly) zero bidders until five minutes to go. Then, it seems it's almost always just the two of us. There are spending many hundreds of dollars a name. They spend several thousand dollars on names just that I am in each day. And that's just me. They are likely buying scores if not hundreds of names a day, probably spending $xx,xxx every single day.

I could beat them on each one if I wanted, but I don't believe the domain market is healthy enough to sell them all, and would be a losing proposition. But, HD thinks otherwise. They must b spending seven figures annually just a GD Auctions. I actually think they are going to lose money on these, as a whole, in the end.

The problem is not just the sniping. The biggest problem is that we all have a competitor that has endless sums of money to win most all auctions they enter. It's just a game we can't win.

I've wondered why some domains go so high. I've also been testing this and noticed that sometimes no one will bid on some names I think should be selling (compared to other sales).... on the names like this that I find interest in, I find it better not to bid as if I bid in the last minute, someone else is sure to bid when the 5 minutes is added... it was never this way for me before when I bought but I've checked out a few searches recently since I'm selling there myself and I can't get lucky bidding anymore.

I see some names going for $100s and some for $1000s and despite I have some fairly decent names myself, I can't seem to get near these offers on similar names I've tried in the past, even if I list on Godaddy....

I see 4L .com's going for decent amounts but I can't even get an offer with a low start.

Something is wrong there.

I looked back and names they beat me on a few weeks ago to see how they are listed. The minimum price they ask is $3,895; the highest I saw is over $5,000. And this is for names that cost them from $40 to many hundreds. I do not think anyone will buy those names for those prices. I'm sure the names I posted above will be priced similarly. Had I won the names at those above, I would have priced them at around $800 - $1,500, my sweet spot for selling. Risk-reward would not let me bid higher.

I did get a few names for $12 they did not bid on. Not quite as good as those, but sellable for around $700-800.

I remember how they outbid me for coolcookie.com @ about $1k (i was in need of this domain for personal project - the top auction price for it should be no more than $200..$300); now its on sale for $2995; They seem to be very aggressive bidders and I always wondered how they could be profitable at the end.

I was inspired to just now free register DomainingIsDead.com. LOL. It isn't actually dead, but it's heading that way. People price their names too high when there are too many other options for buyers now in other TLD's, and also Google does not care if keywords are in your name or what TLD it is. And with the rise of apps over sites, names like [keyword]app.com or get[keyword].com for apps is very popular. It's not the game it once was.

Maybe I'll just start a blog on my new DomainingIsDead.com where I can bitch about things. LOL. Except blogging is dead too now.

I've made seven figures in domains over the years, but I'm thinking it's time to ride off into the sunset and just go to the bank with the sales of my names in inventory, increasing my cash flow anyway. It would certainly be less frustrating than getting the continual texts all day that say, "you have been outbid."

But it's funny--I make way more money watching my stock investments, making the right choices in buying/selling. Domaining is actually a distraction from that and I know it can cost me money if I'm not paying attention to the stock market. But it's such an addition!!! Trying to stop is tough, it's not my first time. Anyone know where the next meeting of Domainers Anonymous is?

Sorry, but you don't know what you are talking about. HD waits to see if anyone bids on the name. If someone does, then HD starts bidding. If no one bids and they want the name, they "snipe" it, meaning their automated script places an $11 bid on the name faster than any human can. Do you really think I'm stupid enough to try to pay several hundred dollars for a name I can get for $11 every time? Do you really think HD is stupid enough to solely base their decision to buy a name based on if anyone else bids on it?

There are names that I do not place a bid on -- names that are not as good of a quality as these examples. Sometimes no one bids on them and I am able to get them for $11-$5. Other times the name never shows up for $11, meaning someone else got the name. When I check weeks later, every single name that was gone before I could get it for $11 shows up on Huge Domains for sale.

The example names I gave, had I not bid on them would have been sniped at $11 by HD before you or I could have gotten to them.

This is not a complete list but covers almost all .com expiring GoDaddy auctions that got their first bid close to the end of the auction (sometimes 5 minutes sometimes a few hours). I do not track the final price. I track many last minute auctions including on dropcatch, mostly no value outside of curiosity and trend info. I cover some of them on a separate thread (last few post include some GD auction data) but here I ran the info that could help in this discussion.
