How many Domains do you need to recieve 1 offer per day?

So... im thinking to myself. I have a "decent" portfolio of approximately 300 domain names....and recieve offers occasionally right now. About 100 of my domains could be dropped or may be dropped when they come up for renewal, but a majority are decent names.

So, the question is.... if you have a portfolio with a mix of high caliber names, some mediocre names, and some decent names... How many domains do you need, to get 1 offer every day?

Example, if you had a portfolio like BuyDomains - they have some great names, some ugly names, and some decent names... if your portfolio was much like theres... how many names do you think it would take, to recieve an offer every day?

I think it depends less on the number and more on the quality and most importantly upon the publicity / exposure.
Having names on all marketplaces - conventional and otherwise will bring the most offers.
A nicely targetted niche of names marketed to businesses within that particular niche should perform.
My thoughts.

I do agree, but if you were to take a random sampling of BuyDomains portfolio (as an example, since they have one of the largest)

How many of their domains, parked with for sale signs, would it take to recieve 1 offer each day? Just your guesses or opinions.

I'm guessing a handful of really good domains would get several hundred offers per year...at least one everyday if the prices were right.

When Buydomains first started to list their sales in DnJournal (as far as I can remember) they listed about 50 to 90 sales each week usually from $1,000 to $4,000 region sometimes with a few bigger ones in the xx,xxx region.

No idea if that was all their sales for the week but I doubt it, they must spend a fair bit on advertising.

So if they own roughly 800,000 domains and sell at least 400 a month then based on this very flimsy evidence  I will say.....................

.......yes, you have a very long way to go !

Well how many inquiries do you get per day now, averaged over say, a month. Then do the maths to work it out. Presuming quality stays the same.

I've been wondering this same thing, Justin ... I have about 1,100 domains right now, and get a couple of offers per month out of the blue (mainly through parking). I'd like to get an offer a day, but don't think I want to have 15,000 domains in my portfolio! So I'm thinking of ways to better publicize my existing domains. Will let you know if & when I find something that works well.

Dave

As I recall from another thread, didn't they tell you on the phone how many domains they were selling a day, Justin?

As a Matter of fact, they did... The claim was 100 domains sales per day, at an average of 3k per domain....

We can make a few assumptions... lets try this on for size.

100 sales a day = 200 Offers (lets just say that for everyone 2 offers, one sale is completed)

So.. lets say they get 200 offers per day on a portfolio of 700,000 domains

So... thats 3,500 domains, generates a single offer per day...

Based on my figures, my portfolio should yield an offer every 10 days.

And to be honest.... thats probably on average, right...

Dave, I am moving my domain names from parking, to for sale pages as Soon as DeliciousDomains.com is up and running properly. This I believe will drastically increase the amount of sales.

I have around 250 domains and got about 1 -2 offers per week, but most of them are not serious :(

I own close to 8000 domains and do this professionally.

I have some names that make over $50 per day in PPC and I get many offers by email from bottom feeders looking for a great deal ... most of these bottom feeders have no idea on the stats of the name they want to buy. They actually think I would consider selling a domain that makes $1500 a month in PPC for $200.

On the average I get about 3 offers a week which is ok, but as more people are trying to get into this aftermarket domain biz... I have seen the same buyers trying to get similar names from me for very low prices.

Its not a question of how many offers I get but how many valid offers I get or worth responding to. I don't rely on domain sales because I do so well on parking and developed sites but i do sell quite a bit.

But what I hate the most is , people trying to unload their domains to me... I must get 10 emails a day from companies who are trying to sell domains for others... and most of the name are garbage.

Daniel,

Sounds like you have one great portfolio. How long have you been in the business? Unfortunately my parking revenues are a complete and utter joke - maybe 4-6 bucks per day on a good week....

I take it that's in total ;) Anyway, every little bit helps. I like the name/logo for Delicious Domains.

really admire you to get such good revenue from PPC. I parked almost all of my portfolio with Sedo and get less than $10 month from parking :(

I would echo its not about how many low ball offers you get thats important, its how many serious sales you make at the end of the day.

I have been trying to learn from him on the PPC side, since I came back into domaining :), its tough going though the PPC market! Sometimes you do quite well other times you just plain miss the ball, still the successes are with you for life or until someone decides they want to pay 3-4 years revenue for a name.

I have been doing this for about 4+ years now. I started out going for brandable names that I thought would sell but selling domains is a very difficult and to competitive. If I had to depend on sales to survive i would have thrown in the towel long time ago.

The best way to make it in the PPC business is to go after names related to New Technologies or Trends. Not all of the names you buy will do great but when they do, it can really pay off.

Many people think that all the domains of any great value were bought up in the 1990's and that is not true. Look at a name like FreeRingTones.com (created in 2003). Technologies change and if you speculate on them you can hit some real winners in the PPC market.

How do you hunt down traffic domains to park? What is your preffered strategy? If you dont mind sharing.

I have so many methods of finding names and I could easily write a book. I actually thought about it but now its harder than ever to get names because there are so many people doing it and many of them are very smart.

But I edited my last post on this thread before you quoted it and replied to it.

I follow trends in domains and future markets. I just recently picked up some good names relating to Foreclosures that have been really paying off. I want after these names where the foreclosure and subprime loan foreclosures areas will be hardest hit (like las vegas).

I recently bought MortgatgeTrends.org (on the open market) and also very impressed with the traffic on this name.

Other recent names I have picked up with that are doing very well are Identyprotection.com (typo).
