.mobi How do you feel now about .mobi length?

In the early days of the landrush, the majority said the names should be short and applicable to the mobile web. I agree that those names will have the most value in the coming year or two. Looking past that, do you think the length will be as important? Assuming you have a "keyword phrase" not a single keyword, if people adopt the mobile web won't they type in that phrase no matter how long if that is what they are looking for?

So my question is, what does length matter if you have done your homework and know that your keyword phrase has great search numbers?

Any opinions?

I think the backbone of internet is the search engine - by far click-thru links is where most traffic will come from rather than type-ins, even more so on the mobile than pc. And secondly, bookmarks and auto-complete!

Therefore, to me, it means longer names will be ok - how they will look and boost rankings on search engines may be the key... when I regged I tried to stay under 20 chars (incl the .mobi) so the whole name could comfortably fit across the smallest screen.

Without a doubt, the search engine has made the internet what it is imho.

I think so too. Sometimes there is only one way to type in what you are looking for. Like if someone wanted to know currency exchange rates while they were on the go, they really have no choice but to type that long a#s phrase into their mobile device.

Now, I don't own currencyexchangerates.mobi, some guy in NZ does, but I would think if he developed his site instead of parking it on sedo, that he would get some traffic.

True... there's no escaping from typing - you'll still have to fill out the search box in the SE... maybe this is where a well-organized directory structure will help, but still only to a point, besides without typing, you can pretty much forget about forums, long emails, or blogging... if typing longish urls poses a problem, what about emails, forums, etc.? Oh well, the kids these days can worry about that - I don't have to use the mobile forums, just develop them. :(

I dont think length matters one bit. I think highstakespoker.mobi is my longest name. With possible voice activation and auto default in the future this should not be an issue.

i agree that when it comes to search engines and seo, length becomes less of a factor. however, if the site is going to take that next step of offline advertising and hopefully word of mouth viral marketing, it needs to be a short, memorable and easily recalled domain name.

I prefer short keywords personally, although i do own quite a few long ones but i don't think it really matters to be honest. If it's a common set of words/phase or a long descriptive word it should do ok i would have thought

Agree in that it should not matter with SEO, Voice Search, Bookmarks, etc. on the internet. Namewaiter has a good point in keeping it short in regards to offline marketing though. But man, a mobi default sure would be AWESOME !

Charlie's thread on jumptap shows that search is already a factor and I think it will only grow. As a result, keyword.mobi's will have their place. This assumes there will continue to be keyword url weighting in the search algorithms and I think that is a safe assumption.

I dont think length matters as long as the name is good.

Fifteen characters is probably the limit (15 plus the .mobi is 20 characters), but otherwise the length influence is the same as the rest of tlds: Short is very good, but relevance is critical.

This .mobi thing is spinning in so many directions a domainer can spend full time planting a orchard for future harvest. Its absolutely amazing all the oppourtunities for domainers to get on board with the .mobi.

I think if you are on the sidelines with .mobi you are going to be left holding a small bag of peanuts ) about the size given on airlines) to munch on. The pioneeers of .mobi today will own the concessions.
