Everyone is always saying only to do a whois at moniker, because the others will sell your queries. How do we know moniker is safe?

Moniker prides itself on supposedly being the only registrar never to lose a domain... It also runs in a fairly specialized niche as far as registrars go. Meaning, they are mostly trying to appeal to big business and domainers, unlike GoDaddy who takes a wide-audience marketing approach. So their entire reputation is built on security and domainers... It's very doubtful that they would sell whois searches for a quick buck and risk ruining their entire business.

Do a few thousand whois searches there, then if none of your names are taken, you can conclude that either:

A) Moniker is safe
B) You're really bad at picking names :)

Never had a problem with Moniker myself.

Moniker rocks, hundreds of names there and not a problem. Never had a name stolen and never had the names that I have checked being stalked.

I had a couple names taken from me at Namecheap. It really blew me away. Now after reading this thread I will start using Moniker. Thanks for the info guys.

Any way, although most of my names are elsewhere, I only use Moniker for whois, nowhere else.

Yeah I had names stolen at both Godaddy and Namecheap. It didn't take me long to figure moniker was tight on name slips. Thats probably one of the most frustrating things =\.

Please do not make the same mistake I did with Moniker. Do not blindly trust any registrar to do the right thing. Double check all transactions and save all your emails.

Moniker answers the phone...and those who answer actually truly know what they are doing. I called once at 11:30pm on a Saturday because something didn't look right and the nice man who answered on one ring and helped me out happened to be Monte.

As has already been stated, Moniker is simply the best. I highly doubt they sell searches.. I trust Monte ;)

I've been using them for nearly a year now and I've had 0 problems.

I can't speak for Moniker but all whois searches done at Rebel.com are completely confidential and are not logged or sold.

We also have 'never lost a domain'

As my domains near renewal dates at other registrars, i collectively move them to Moniker. Not one problem at Moniker, prompt, reliable and knowledgeable CS staff and last but not least, special NP pricing and some other features that i welcome very much.
Too bad that Moniker doesn't match prices from other registrars.... it would make the transition of .TV domains a lot more useful for me...

I have few hundred domains with Moniker and by far the best registrar I have ever dealt with.

Registers are generally as safe as your email & username / password combos.

If your email is compromised you're screwed regardless where your name is registered.

For username / passwords the higher the bit strength the better.
