I was contacted by a disgruntled enduser who thought that just because he owned the .co.uk I should give him the .com, we worked it out in the end but it was'nt particularly an enjoyable experience :|

I bought a brandable domain name for $12 for my php scripts directory site in Feb 2007 then I found it's TMed by a company via TM database search. I sent that company an email to check if I can use this domain name for my own site considering my site and their script products are all php based. They replied quickly and told me they don't mind and they are interested in acquiring the domain name. Finally we closed a deal for $1,500 :)

In 1998, someone inquired about my newly registered SilverDollar.com. Little did I know it was an online casino. Put three numbers in the hat $2500, $5000, and $7500 and let my 2-year-old son draw out my price. He drew $7500, the buyer didn't blink and the deal was made. Oh memories.....

Hmm...I really dunno. My biggest sales so far have been via auctions or from ppl in the auctions who contacted me during them & inquired about me selling outright to them. As for my first end-user sale,I have no idea. I've sold over 1,000 domains in the past 6 years and can't remember anything about my first end-user sale.

My first end user sale was CharityAngels.com on 26 June 2002, which was bought by a school in Florida after they approached me - they wanted it for a classroom project. $30 was turned into $200.

They let it lapse and someone else registered it.

That registrant just recently dropped the name so I acquired it again seven years later!

VelevtSuite.com

My first end user sale went some thing like this..

my bro started a new band, as he does every couple months.. and they decided to name it VelevtSuite and asked me to reg him the name.. I did..
2 weeks later he told they changed the name.. ok cool .. now what do i do with velevtsuite hummm..i let sit around a bit and when she was ready to expire, i typed velevt suite into google and low in behold..velvetsuite marketing group came up and oddly enough they where located in Cincinnati, Ohio where I lived at the time.. made a call.. went down and meant them and convinced them that scince they are a branding company its only fitting you own your own extention... welp thats all she wrote and I lived happily ever after...

velvetsuite.com is now located in Atlanta and I have become buddies with the owner.

If you have quality domains you will find they always contact you.

It's how you respond back that matters.

Being familiar with many facets of the Jewish world, the dropping domain Jew / Magazine () com caught my eye and I decided to backorder it. While the word "Jew" is typically used in a derogatory context, I was familiar with a specific magazine known for rebranding traditionally derogatory words used to describe Jews in a newer, more positive, more "hip" light. I offered this end-user the domain for $1500, citing BuyDomains.com listings of higher-priced domains starting with "Jew-" to justify why my price was very fair from a retail perspective. The end-user countered with $1000, I responded with "$1400, final offer", and they accepted. We closed the deal the next day.

I believe this is one of best ways to achieve one's first few end-user sales: stay within your comfort zone; pick a niche you're intimately familiar with and search the drops for domains containing keywords used ubiquitously within that niche. If you're a software developer, for example, look for keywords containing "programming", "engineer", or "tech". Then, pick the top 1-2% best domains from among that list of soon-to-drop keyword domains you assemble, focusing especially on ones you already know would be of interest to multiple specific end-users. Catch these domains on the drop and try to flip.

There are also new tools available now specifically built to help domainers achieve their first few end-user sales. These tools highlight domains that are much less speculative than traditional tools like FreshDrop do.
