A few years ago I requested for hosting and a member here offered me a good deal plus one free month's hosting with Hostquack so I decided to give it a go. I actually stuck by this host for 3 years, he did an okay job but I was satisfied with everything so I didn't really consider moving out (I had too many websites to deal with).
A few weeks ago Hostquack's owner Jonathan Hughes apparently sold his webhosting company to 859compute's Joe Baxter - with no prior warning to his clients so we couldn't opt-out.
As soon as I received an email from 859compute.com telling me that Hostquack now belongs to 859compute, I did freak out a little bit. I wanted to backup my database but I was having serious internet connection issues that I couldn't even enter cPanel. We were having construction at my office at work (I do have a day job) and I was stuck at home for a few weeks.
Everytime I submitted a support ticket, Joe would get to it in a matter of hours at most. Initially I thought 'wow, this guy could be even better than Jonathan'.
All of a sudden my sites went down. After about 1 week downtime I was definitely starting to panic. I kept asking Joe what's wrong and he didn't seem to know. The worst part was when I tried accessing my cPanel and all of a sudden I was presented with an authentication error. I tried accessing my files through FTP and it was the same thing - authentication error.
I submitted a new ticket asking Joe to help me reset my password so I can access my files. I had 2 open support tickets at the time. He sent me a reply on both tickets, telling me that everything would be settled that same day. I thanked him and waited.
1 day later my sites were still down so I asked him if there was anything I had to do on my side. He checked, and said that my nameservers should be changed to 859compute.com's nameservers and that my sites should be up after that.
My sites weren't. 2-3 days later I asked him to help me reset my cPanel password so I could access my websites. What did he do? He deleted all my support tickets!
I have used proper language (no foul or nasty language) to him all this time. And he went ahead and did something so nasty.
I sent him several emails and more support tickets practically begging him to simply reset my password as one of my sites needed to be up (I've incurred financial loss). He ignored all my emails and continuously deleted my support tickets.
I wasn't sure if he was actually receiving them so what I did was a paypal chargeback request. Just a few hours later I received a notification from Paypal telling me that Joe had 'disagreed' with the chargeback for this month's hosting.
I was not angry about that, but I was bothered at the fact that this jerk was ignoring my emails. I mean, how difficult is it to tell your customers that you're still trying to solve issues? We all deal with technical issues - I would have understood the tech issues or the temporary downtime.
I searched a few forums and apparently he's done the same thing to new webhosting companies. According to his Facebook page and a hosting forum, he has purchased more than just Hostquack - he has purchased several small-scale webhosting companies. And many of us are facing the exact same issues I've mentioned above.
Today, I checked his site 859compute.com and the only thing I see is the cPanel login page. So either he's facing serious technical issues or he has pulled the site down.
