I actually like the MR term best. lol. As a commoner/average consumer, I think the XR term is too vague(I know most in here disagree). Not sure what XR stands for. I personally think Mixed Reality is the easiest to understand. Reality mixed with Virtual Reality. Again, as an average consumer.......I think the average person considers ar/vr/mr/xr/whateverR......as Virtual Reality.

The average consumer now knows what VR and AR are, and there's quite a difference between them. One requires wearing a bulky VR headset, the other just means pointing your smartphone camera at the world through an AR app. XR means both. The fact is, as we predicted months back, Microsoft choosing to name their operating system 'Windows MR' was the death knell in terms of domain value for MR.

What are you talking about? MR is different from AR. Why would somebody describe AR as MR?

Because we're talking about future domain values and these are solely determined by consumer use, and consumers are describing what you might be referring to 'MR' as AR. That's all that matters.

Not to mention Apple, lol.

Mixed reality will have a valid meaning when the digital world and the real world are truly mixed, or rather meshed or merged together (as Intel was trying to do). And that likely the long term goal of Microsoft and hence the reason for their choice of term. Here is another company trying : https://techcrunch.com/2018/01/30/imverse-mixed-reality/

Augmented means to enhance or improve, just like anything else augmented, but MS has perverted the term's meaning by sayings that AR only does a small handful of things so that they can use MR to distinguish themselves, but it's stupid. There will never be a practical need to use MR as a term.

It's always comforting to see more 'real content things' continue to develop in growing segments to support your hunches. Increasing competition for names 'that say it well' always drives value.

The problem for Facebook entering AR is that they don't have a smartphone. I remember there's been rumours of them coming out with their own phone for years, but they never did. They should at least have branded with a big company like Google did with their first smartphones. Probably too late now, but I wouldn't be surprised if they make an announcement like that in the next few months.

They have managed pretty well with Oculus as their way of entering the hardware game. Especial considering that they had to start from scratch without the Android ecosystem. I think that with the experience gained they should be able to launch other forms of hardware in a more streamlined way.

And they certainly have the funds, that's for sure...

While I agree somewhat,
What you will have when these (vr/ar) truly mesh together is 'augmented virtuality'.
Something there is not enough pc cpu cycles for, and likely not be for at least 6+ years in home pc's.
While the quality of dimensional encoding cameras will go up, challenges for the programming for changing variable lighting conditions keep this a bit out in the future for anything outside of novelty.
But MS and Qualcomm can argue over the ''everything and in between'' till then.
It will be interesting how many more 'new things' will happen in that time.

I only have VrHorseRacing / com. Horse racing is MASSIVE in the UK. I know William Hill and other large betting companies are working on virtual reality horse racing. William Hill teamed up with Unit9 for this. There's also Ladbrokes, Coral and many more that will enter this niche.

William Hill actually have a developed site on vr-horse-racing / com. Still, maybe they'll want my VrHorseRacing someday. :)

When virtual reality horse racing blows up and really takes off and they'll all be competing in this niche, you can BET I'll up the price accordingly. :)

I've got Logistics+VR, I've let a lot of my VR registrations drop but renewed that one.

With VR and virtual tech tipped to revolutionise many industries, thought it was best keeping all the industry names i have with 'VR' at the side.

Well I just checked and all the AV + Keyword premiums are indeed taken.

AV will not rise.

Imo

Immersive
Holo
Hologram
XR
VR +virtual reality
AR
MR+mixed reality

With great keywords is a good choice to make.

Well, that's a bit to far into the future for my long money right now.
And I doubt it will be commonly referred to much of anything outside of VR when it does ???
Being so far out, how could you put 'very much' money on it ?

Folks are so distracted by the shinny object, it has been cheap and easy to clean-up on the near term.
I take 'light buys' on possibilities of things 4-8 years out, but my major focus lately has been names needed in the content arena the next 1-4 years, 'cause that's where we are. There is a active end user market.
Unlike 2011 when I started on VR names in that blind far reaching light buying way, time has passed, and the road map has been drawn, so it's not as much of a guessing game now to play the near term.
