The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Well, that's a bit to far into the future for my long money right now.
And I doubt it will be commonly referred to much of anything outside of VR when it does ???
Being so far out, how could you put 'very much' money on it ?

Folks are so distracted by the shinny object, it has been cheap and easy to clean-up on the near term.
I take 'light buys' on possibilities of things 4-8 years out, but my major focus lately has been names needed in the content arena the next 1-4 years, 'cause that's where we are. There is a active end user market.
Unlike 2011 when I started on VR names in that blind far reaching light buying way, time has passed, and the road map has been drawn, so it's not as much of a guessing game now to play the near term.

Well I'm down to under 1,400 names on NameCheap now. Hoping to drop another 100 this month alone.

I'm not looking down on that but... WOW...
I'm kicking myself for getting close to a all time high of names held and it's still growing.
But I have not dropped much in the last 3 years.
Something under 460 names at present. I have a self imposed 500 limit.
And I'm not going to try to justify more in any case. I am very well disciplined. (my name diet)

I have picked up perhaps 25 names in the last 2 months. Probably over 100 in the last year.
But last month I did have my lowest ROI in 6 years (25x) on a name that I only held 8 days.
While I did pay more for it than anything in the last 7 years, no regrets on that ROI bottoming out....LOL
I don't think the previous owner worked his names at all. Obviously, it was to easy.
---
I'm not bragging but I think the most important aspect is the self discipline to not over-react to the shinny object. You must allow the time to react more accurately. The only way I have found personally to achieve that is using a short list and impose buying limits no matter how much money you have to play with today.
Have a plan and stick to it, adjust in 'minor' ways as necessary.

Everyone seems to have the idea that they have to grab all these newly discovered gems because they will disappear quickly. I can testify to the fact that 'when you are looking that far ahead', it does occasionally happen to loose one, it is fairly rare they all go. Allow yourself the time to cherry pick from those gems in the beginning. The reduced overhead will allow you to make good plays that would otherwise be missed opportunities in the future. Control that greed monster.

MGM 2000 sq ft VR Arcade in Casino (kinda last years news)
https://uploadvr.com/zero-latency-mgm-grand-vegas/

And more very cool stuff in Japan
https://www.engadget.com/2017/07/18/vr-zone-shinjuku-project-i-can-tour/

Perhaps summarized better by this Vegas Blog
https://lasvegasweekly.com/news/2018/jan/25/virtual-vegas-vr-technology-enhance-experiences/

Quite honestly,
I don't think it will be to long before these experiences are transformed into home experiences.
Think of video arcades of the 70's and 80's later becoming home games but at a much faster pace.
But this has to start with franchising content creators. And a solid hardware platform.
And you can see that taking shape as we think about it.

But the public arcades will need to stay on top of quality of delivery to survive. Staying on top of that advanced hardware. But I can see Home Arcade kits that allow anyone to create their own gameplay area with friends coming soon.
I'm quite interested in Vive-2.0 and the extra stuff Valve has been making for it. I think we may see some action in this area in just a few years. Perhaps next year. Till then, the franchise arcade will have to do.
But on the bright side of that, it will present a added opportunity for big esports competitions.
Practice at home competing with others online on the home version and come to the franchise arcade to compete as a team against others. JMHO but that is how I see much of this this playing out.

Google's push for a VR 180 standard yields 3 new cameras

The new (old) Captain Kirk. Shatner discusses return to Star Trek via VR tech

I find 180 to be extremely boring, but they are necessary for getting more user content out there to promote VR adaption. There will be viral 180 videos someday and watchiwatgwat them on 2d will not be satisfying

Somewhat agree...
It really is not much more than a wide 3D cam.
But I can understand why google pushed for this. It was for multiple reasons.

Even a 2k 360 vr cam has poor resolution in vr because you are only viewing 1/6 of that total image stretch.
To make that go twice as far, a 2k 180 would have twice the resolution as viewed in vr.
Don't forget that 3D would be 2 x 2k images.
Then when we get to a true respectable starting level which is 3D4k at 360 degrees is a lot of data to stream in a smartphone. from many possible aspects. but to edit a 4k360 may be near impossible for home users.
the 180 format was just created as a temporary stepping stone till things progress in cpu speed and network speeds.

So...
How would you define 'SMART' when describing SmartGlasses and SmartGoggles ?
What about SmartGloves ?
That is to say, what elements make it 'SMART'.

It's being used all the time but at this point, I have not seen anything smart about them.
I have always deemed it a matter of oncoming voice assisted navigation or execution.

But it may yet be one more defined term to argue in the future. Hope not.
It's likely to be a common term that describes any. Hope not.
I am fairly well covered with the term in new media. But it could come to mean things not intended when I bought those names.

Any thoughts ?

They will eventually just be called "glasses"....just like how we call smart phones just "phones" today.

"Smart" keyword domains can sell in the beginning hype of a new technology, but eventually the term loses it's popularity due to lack practicality - this goes for not just consumers but the companies advertising to them. They will just be called "glasses".

Apple watch was released in 2015 and we are still calling them "Smart" watches. But as they become more common place, it's likely that people will just call them watches, if it's not happening already...

In the 90s we called them "DIGITAL" watches because they were so new and exciting....Casio and what not. Now no one bothers to mention whether a watch is clock-face or digital. We call them all "watches". The same will happen for "Smart" glasses...

Smart domain sales aren't that exciting, so don't get your hopes up unless you have "Smart+Keyword.com"

I would like to believe that but why aren't we now calling them PHONES and not SMARTPHONES
right now ? and if 'phone sales' isn't much good, why should I expect 'smartphone sales' to be.
I find it to be a needed designation to separate them.
My problem is, there is no definition for the separation.
So at this point, it just means something more tech advanced than the standard edition.
JMHO

You have valid questions about sales. I think the point I made about people letting go of "smart" as a technology loses it's novelty still stands.

Worth noting here in Australia they are "mobile phones" occasionally referred to as a smart phone but mostly mobile phones as opposed to "cell phones" or " cell" Having said all that i think some glasses will be dedicated to certain tasks so there may be a branding element to a name. Example Scan Glasses

Some more interesting observations of VRChat
https://techxplore.com/news/2018-02-virtual-reality-chatroom-app-boost.html

But a moment I have been waiting for...
Architecture, Engineering, Construction & VR
http://www.installation-international.com/aec-industries-embrace-vr/

BTW... If your into Space and that kinda stuff,
you may like this live SpaceX view of Starman in the Tesla in orbit as much as I do.

During the first month of 2018, an app called VRChat shot from 4,000 installs to more than two million.

I ques i will have to renew my VRChatApp in king domain. :zippermouth:

I have just send i email to vrchat to let them know the domain is for sale for $750. Very cheap and fair price in my eyes.

While I honestly am not picking on your name but, I have to ask why you think they have a use for it.
I do think those that are distributing the un-official app in a PC 2D version would have a need and probably is in their price range.
(that tip is free LOL :woot:...but you can cut me in)

Yes but they got a huge amount of venture capital funding and growing from 4000 installs to over 2000000 in just one month and this is changing everything business wise... $750 is nothing for this kind of huge funding and user numbers... i hope they will take the domain for defensive reasons.

$300 for vrchat must be in a pre vr time... even back in 2014 / 2015 this kind of category killer name was worth way more.

Strange some of you guys don't be more positive for this kind of cold calling / outbound sales approach. I have sold a couple of days ago 2 domains this way and i would say just send a targeted email to a end user... why not?

As a matter of fact i have send tonight a couple of more mails to end users for different vr domains lol. But of course the domains must make sense and not be garbage... garbage will not sell.

Well, if you were reading this thread regularly, you would know as I pointed out a few weeks ago that the reason for the growth was the new 'desktop 2D' users. Many of which are using a un-official version of the app to get into the rooms in a open interface. But you can also look that up in the news.

A Defensive reason for a buy would be unlikely. They have a TM and a great 'short name' with lots of traffic 'not easily confused'. Obviously you are not getting 'significant bleeding traffic' intended for vrchat to vrchatapp as that would change things considerably. And the for-mentioned lead I provided may be very well be exempt just from fair use of the open interface. They could have TM rights of their own.

I gave you a great, perhaps your best lead for cold calling that leads to a sale.
Sorry you do not agree but I can't get any more positive than that.
I hope you sell it either way. Good luck.
