Hi

I was thinking in register a domain at iDotz. Domain will be a .gs.
Can I transfer it to other user there, right?
'cause I never tried iDotz... I may sound like a newbie... :bah:

Thanks for your help.

I don't believe you are able to transfer .gs domains from registrar to registrar, so make sure you pick a registrar you can bear dealing with from year to year. Your best bet is Moniker IMO.

You can push domains between Idotz accounts- have done both sends and receives recently in different extensions (Although I will admit .gs is not one of them).

Also, note irishmats post, pointing out a $10 saving, Moniker also allow pushing.

How long do you have to have the name in your idotz account beofre it can be transfered? I do not mean to hijack this thread. Continue on.

A push from one account to another happens pretty much instantly. All you need to push a name is first name, last name, and account name of the receiving party.

sorry to bring this thread back, but since the question is relevant, I thought I should ask.
I can't see .gs listed in Moniker.
have they stopped offering the extension?

Thanks!

Do you know why that is? Are there problems with that extension? I have had my eye on a few names for development, but I've noticed their whois seems to be down more often than up, when checking through some registrars. Will it still be possible to renew .gs in another two or three years? If there aren't enough .gs registrations to support the company maintaining it, could there be a loss of service?

.gs domain

The maximum population of this territory is 26 people in summer, with only about 11 in the winter. It is mainly used as a British Antarctic Survey station.

I don't know why moniker took out .gs. I would only assume that they are not getting a lot of registration with .gs.

I think .gs will be around for a while. I don't think Yahoo would acquire blo.gs if they knew that .gs won't be around. BU.GS is under construction right now and I think they would develop a site about computer viruses and bugs. I also have a plan developing some of my domains.

When you search a name at domaindiscount24.net (all extensions) you get a long list of possibilities. Near the bottom is .gs. if you click the little "i" in a square box (information) it says:
domaindiscount24.net said:
Zone Use
A .GS Domain is normally used by companies or private entities who are located on the Islands or who have business relationships with these Islands. (snip)
Transfers
Domain Transfers are not possible at this point in time.
I have no idea how accurate this is, just reporting what I have found. If the islands have 24 people in the high season then there are likely no "companies or private entities who are located on the Islands" and so the offering itself contradicts the terms. And the registry is adamsnames.com which is domainer-friendly from what I have heard, so I do not know what to think.

ON A side note .... Anything Reg'd at Idotz (Especially Exotic extensions) Do NOT go around bragging about the reg UNTIL it is on your host/nameservers and you KNOW you are in control of the domain.
Nothing appears to be in real time there , And I've seen people post appraisals on domains they "thought" they owned - only to have People with no Scruples turn around and register the domain elsewhere that is in Real-Time ;)

That doesn't make any sense at all. I don't think any company would want to established a business in an island knowing that the most people you can serve is 24 and that's the high season. Also, AdamsNames is no longer running the .GS it is now being run by Atlantis North Ltd and CoCCA.

I agree that the in-island use of the domains is likely to be non-existent. If .GS is with CoCCA now then the domaindiscount24 information is clearly out of date.

Or perhaps they are selling domain names to the penguins?

lol...accentnepal.

When you use whois.net for .gs this is the message you'll see

[whois.adamsnames.tc]
Error:
xx.gs is not a domain controlled by AdamsNames.

Details --- the GS registry is now managed by Project Atlantis / CoCCA.

And using whois.hm you'll see

Error:
xx.gs is not a domain controlled by AdamsNames.

Details --- the GS registry is now managed by Project Atlantis /
CoCCA.

I hope that clear things up a bit
