I have spent the last 2 weeks e-mailing people from the Whois regarding what I consider strong .tv names. There are many great deals out there and it's a great buyers market. I was able to pick up Illinois.tv for a great price this way.

Illinois.tv fit's into my plan of getting a top 10 country geo (Spain.tv) a top 10 state geo, Illinois.tv (4th largest state) and still looking for a top 10 city Geo.
All these I plan to develop this year.

I think we have one of the greatest buying opportunities right now for .tv. Don't let this pass you buy. Don't let the negative people say the economy sucks, .tv is a fad, etc. The people who take action now when it's a buyers market will be rewarded in the years to come. I already been through this when I bought most of my .com names after the internet bust in 2000-2001 and it is the reason why I am able to finance my .tv names today.

Thanks, Jim

Broken hearted that none of my names were in your list, but I'm happy you've found a great name - Illinois - what a beauty!

Totally agree with the comment about ignoring those who suggest TV is a fad.

I've managed to get a good few names from direct contact. My favourite name I managed to acquire less than two months after being told by a third party that the buyer 'would never ever sell, no matter what the price'.

congrats jim!

nice name and add to your collection.. its a great name. i agree on the internet bust and you timed that very well...you experienced that and see similar things for .tv right now. i think your right, great names out there at great prices.

i am eying on couple names, one geo name still and be a nice addition to my collection of names but i still feel cash is king right now(when i say cash is king, in my case i am not making the money as i was 3 or 4 years ago) and for me cash is king. I am slowly developing things and thats eating up some cash reserves. everyone has there own views on things, how you live, where you live, monthly expenses and etc.. so everyone has a different view on this. i am still bearish on the economy, feel cash is still king. now if i am attached to the name at the right price and if seller is eager to sell, i will step back in and put some money to work. i wont disagree on that and it is a great time to buy a name that you love.

sorry for rambling jim, you done some great buys this year and on a role. you will be rewarded in the years to come on your .tv names! congrats! i will go on record saying you will be .tv domainer of the year for 09..

congrats jim and sorry for the economic view by jeff, lol...

I totally agree, some real bargains around IF your willing to spend the time contacting lots of owners.

I've been doing a bit of the same but only looking for bargains for investment as i have all i need for developing, last week i picked up a European Capital City Geo .Tv for low $xxx & standard reg fee which is something i would not of expected this time last year when the economy worries were not so widespread.

I'm very jealous over your getting Illinois.tv, i always wanted a decent US Geo but have been priced out the market.
Great domain with massive potential for development or investment.

Any word on how much you paid or is that private?

Feel free to contact me anytime if you want any of my spare Geo's  (any apart from Scotland.tv of course)

Have a Good weekend all,
Ronnie

Ronnie,

Illinois.tv cost $3,000 and the owner had the name renewed through 2010.
It's a $500 premium. He still made money from his investment and I got a good deal.

Also, I am finding out many people I been contacting are getting some nice offers on Geo's over $50,000 such as Canada.tv which they are turning down. Also, a lot of sales that are non-disclosure going on for over $50,000 in .tv as well. I invite everybody to come over and join us at namepros
so expect some new members coming in.

Thanks, Jim

Jim,

Illinois.tv at ยฃ3K is a nice deal, the 2010 renewal is an extra bonus of course.
Excellent work, well worth all the time it takes to look through the whois & contact many owners to find just 1 that is looking to sell.

Like you i have heard about a number of big Geo sales with NDA's over the last few months, such a shame the wider public cannot be told as it would do a lot to give .tv extra credibility (though would bring in lots more domainers & make Geo bargains harder to find probably)

I did not know about Canada.tv knocking back a $50K offer, nice bit of information for anyone who owns Country name .tv's. IMHO

ronnie i agree 99.9 of the time with you but this nda topic really dosent kill or make the extension. you and owners play the role of .tv and success.

i respect the nda and being humble on things imo... i am sure someone will go off on me on this issue, i have no problems with nda one bit.. your right on domainers and your right... we have a few domainers in .tv one being paige howe owning sd.tv ( developer to if he is offended by me saying domainer but dont know much about him)

I dont think NDA's can kill or make the extension either, dont think that at all.

I've always said .tv is about development & the more great .tv sites we see out there then the greater this extension can flourish. IMHO

I do think more publiched high value sales would stop a lot of the specticism around .TV's as right now we get lots of domainers doubting almost everything good about .tv
It's not something i'd worry too much about & i'd never pressure anyone to disclose a private sale but i do think having a higher % of the big money sales going public & getting lots of media, domainers press would be good for .tv prices.

Ronnie,

Maybe I had used the wrong term lol.

All the things you wrote I agree with.

Just for you I will announce a big sale before the .tv cruise party just for you. Lol and will try hard to avoid nda.

Media attention, etc yes I agree on and sales.

If my portfolio reaches xxx, xxx in value I will be more likely to do an nda. That's just me and if I cash out. But will announce a big sale before the .tv cruise party lol.

In the meantime I am rebuilding my portfolio, taking things slow, thinking cash flow in 09 but at the same time find deals and not over pay for things. Cash still king lol. Hard to do a balancing act.

Ronnie, your sitting on tons of nice gems. Nice portfolio my friend. Jim you keep amazing me and in 09 prediction thread I voted you as most underrated .tv domainer. And within days look at you now from my post.

Either way there are some nice names out there and can be bought.

In the meantime I will be in the kiddy pool lol.

Makes Jim's buy of the .tv look like even better value.
Excellent, i'm sure a great ROI will be made from this one.

Lets look at top 10:

NewYork.TV - Dr Halper, not selling big $$
LosAngeles.TV - Dr Halper, no selling unless big $$
Chicago.TV - up for sale, don't know the price
Dallas.TV - poodle
Houston.TV - poodle
Phoenix.TV - told me $3M too, at least he is consistent
SanDiego.TV - fin, will never sell
Atlanta.TV - kuba, doubt he sells
Miami.TV - semi-developed, have never spoken to this owner
Detroit.TV - just sold, doubt that will sell
Philadelphia.TV - owned by a domain investor that demands top dollar

I could go down to the top 25 and its tough to find one that you could get for less than $25K - most more like $100K

Examining your 'top 10' more closely we see the following with regard to their premium status and their current use...

NewYork.TV - $35 โ€˜Premiumโ€™ - parked
LosAngeles.TV - $35 โ€˜Premiumโ€™ - parked
Chicago.TV - $1100 Premium - part developed for night life channel
Dallas.TV - $5000 Premium - static sales page
Houston.TV - $500 Premium - static sales page
Phoenix.TV - $2000 Premium - zero response
SanDiego.TV - $500 Premium - zero response
Atlanta.TV - $1000 Premium - parked
Miami.TV - $1000 Premium - zero response
Detroit.TV - normal reg fee - sedo page
Philadelphia.TV - $500 - zero response

That's right, ten of the top geo names in the USA and not one of them of any use to the poor soul who actually believes the crap that typing .TV at the end of a geo will give him or her something more useful than most of the .com url's.

WE WILL FAIL IN OUR RESPONSIBILITY TO OUR BRAND AND TO OURSELVES IF WE ALLOW THIS TO CONTINUE

I am as guilty as the rest for having parked pages that I want to develop and my apologies to Latvia, Lancashire, Canberra and a host of other places for presently offering nothing worthwhile.

However, I have built my player, done my planning, and will soon offer something of use beyond the bland offerings of a sedo site. Hopefully others are doing similar and we can really show the great possibilities of a televisual .TV channel for eacg geo location.

May I respectfully suggest that instead of harping on about how wonderful a person is because they own 'top names' we actually have a go at them if all they do with those names is sit on their backsides and don't even do the basic to improve the value of their domain or improve the very brand (.TV) so many of us have invested our futures in promoting.

Perhaps we should instead give praise to people because they not only own a name, but are also are doing something worthwhile to make it a name and site worth watching.

At the moment it seems that .TV is only a threat to itself - and will never offer a genuine competition to .com (by being better) because too many see merely owning a name as the only destination for wealth.
