The first owned and operated geo .tv site by an major network tv station in a local market that I've seen, in this case ABC in Macon Georgia.

This is a great sign for the geo tv space IMO

I agree. Nice find and thanks for sharing. This was regged in Oct 06 - I wonder if they were the original reg or they bought in aftermarket? Good news either way. Cheers, CarryOn

Since this is an ABC TV channel, using the fragment or be fragmented world we live in today - quote borrowed from Jeremy AlLaire, I see this as a test run for a whole load more cities that ABC will acquire if the figures make them worthwhile.........

This is a really important find....

Juts to be clear. The local ABC affiliate TV station in Macon, owns Macon.tv not ABC Corporate, but the point is the same in fact even better because by showing the viability of TV stations owning and operating geo tv sites it will get the attention of networks at the corporate level as well as other TV stations throughout the country whether they are ABC, NBC, CBS or FOX.

IMO this can lead to a bidding war in the local markets as I content that we will see different stations in the same market taking interest in the generic city name of there city down the road. This will build over time and the key is we have now have more than just a mental model to show these TV stations, we have a living breathing example. While this is the first TV station geo tv I've seen used most stations do own there .tv call letters and some will use those as well, but to me the power of the city names far exceeds the call letters for obvious reasons.

Yes but SKG hit on the main issue. Will the TV stations use the call letters they have been branding for the past 50+ years like the one CBS station above.

Or will they use NBC4.tv

Or will they use the city.tv

My feeling is that the newspapers are screwed. My former Director at Respond came from Washington Post. The Post was paranoid of Craigslist.
The GEO.coms hold the clue.

The newspapers will jump onto the online video and move toward the TV stations. On another board I frequent, there is a reporter from HamptonRoads.tv. He reported that he had to attend video camera training because Landmark wants him to record Virginia Tech football videos. In fact, all of Landmark's reporters in Hampton Roads had to attend this training since they were all given video cameras.

I took this as a sign that the newspapers want to move toward online video and therefore will buy the city.tv (as they have done with many of the GEO.coms) to use them as online TV stations.

So my bet is look for the newspaper companies to express interest in GEO.tv since TV stations will probably go with their callsigns.TV

Fully agree, a newspaper using the letters 'sa' contacted me some time ago for sa.tv. Would be an interesting move indeed if newspapers go more online and towards .tv.

Nice find Poodleman!

Thank you poodleman for a great find! :)

This is indeed a great news for all those who are investing in .TV.

I'm very certain that we'll see more and more media companies using the .TV extension for broadcasting.

We'll also see be seeing more of other type of companies using .TV to promote/release their product or service.
