Interesting article on a number of fronts.
Firstly Big Rick is planning on grabbing more mobis.
We're past the 360k mark with registrations.
Bad news is someone regged myflorida.mobi, the .com has come straight after it. The upside is the guy who regged it is defending it with a lwyer.
should be interesting to see outcome:
Here's the story:

Well, "myflorida," even without the .COM, is trademarked by the state, so I don't think there's much the guy can do, honestly. I don't think one could really claim that this is a generic name...

But it's definitely nice exposure for the extension, in a mainstream publication!

great article...if evry paper in the country writes something like this within a year or 2 .mobi will be widely known...

this trademark sh@t is getting stupid...generics should be in a class of their own as far as tms go...

Once you add something like "My" in front of it, though, doesn't it sort of cease to be generic? I'm not sure of this myself, which is why I'm asking, but it seems that generics can only really be claimed to be "generic" when they're on their own. Once you start adding other words around them, such as "My" or "i" or "e," it seems to me that they take on a brandable quality...

Myflorida.com appears on every car license plate in the whole of Florida.

He certainly won't be able to claim he wasn't aware of the original website

For a seventy dollar investment, it sounds like Mr. Thomas Rask is getting some pretty good exposure for his other domain names!
And correct me if I am wrong, but I dont think he even had to travel to a courthouse someplace to defend himself....it is all done online, right?

he has no chance of winning since the name is TMed. What an idiot. Combining 2 generic words doesnt make the whole thing generic. Just like MySpace is a TM also. It also doesnt matter if companies or whoever that has a TM got their mobi names when the TM period was going on for mobi. .mobi is not above the law and a company has the legal right to protect their TM any time they want. If a company like google didnt believe in mobi and didnt reg google.mobi they could sue somone even 10 years from now if they wanted to for having the name.
