I got an email from godaddy today confirming that a domain that I was owned was cancelled in my account. i never cancelled the domain. The domain contains the word loan and doesn't violate an TM. I contacted them and they are "unsure" and would have to look into it. Seems kind of weird to me.

Have they actually deleted the domain? Check your account. I receive such emails quite often but the domains are still in my account.....some glitch

It's a phishing email, NOT from Godaddy. So don't log in through the email link.

I received one of those a few months ago and just ignored it AFTER I logged in on my own (NOT through the link) and discovered that all was good.

IF you logged in through the email link, CHANGE your password ASAP, and contact Godaddy.

Also, if you had it listed for sale as a premium domain, it may have sold.

Out of curiosity, what email address did it come from ?

Actually, the email sent to me was slightly different in that "Godaddy" was asking me to click onto my account and to delete my own domain.

Except for the misspellings, it was a very cleverly set up email message. The true email address:

[email protected]

The site emkei.cz is called "Fake Mailer" and is owned by Martin Klubal; I don't think he's the scammer, but, imo, he shares some of the blame for setting up such a service.

I had to really hunt for this email address within the original sent info for this sender--it looked so authentic.

It was weird because it WAS a Godaddy link within the email. This was the message:

Dear,

Unfortunatly due to inactivity of the site BLOCKZILLA.com our security team needs to check the credibility of the website. This requires help from you, our valued customer. Please visit https://dcc.godaddy.com/, log in with your secure GoDaddy username and password and delete the selected domain BLOCKZILLA.com.

Once this has been done the GoDaddy security scan will begin and you will be credited one free year of GoDaddy web and domain hosting for your website.

Thanks for being a Go Daddy Customer

My suspicion: the scammer was trying to convince me to delete the domain myself so that he/she could catch it.

(Blockzilla, ha)

It was either a hand reg or cheap auction win, so we're not talking big bucks.

I guess you can readily tell it's a fake email from Godaddy, because there is no discount coupon attached to the email message. LOL

Yes, check premium listings.

I have received the cancellation email a few times without getting the domain has sold email.

Outside that, the only reason a domain would really be deleted would be if it expired or was transferred to another registrar or account.

This is definitely strange.

Even if your domain expires, it should not be deleted from your account, not until day 45/46 after expiration. The same with auction or BIN. The domain stays in your account until the buyer has paid, payment has been verified, and seller been paid.

Is it possible that your account has been hacked? The hacker could have targeted just this one domain, so your radar might not have gone off.

Also, what does Godaddy whois say about ownership?

Could you PM someone on the forum with the domain name, someone you trust? Someone savvy about such matters?

2 of the most important things a domainer should consider when choosing a register is; Security and experienced technical support, which Godaddy has neither.

Well at least you were not hacked.
All's well that ends well :)

You never mentioned if you had listed it for sale yourself before all this happened, because if you didn't then the $483 you made is still great, but not so much if you never listed it ! lol...can you confirm you listed it....?

I don't have many premium sales in my record but I'd expect GD to tell me a name of mine has been sold, and keep me apprised as to if they paid or not, just like a regular sale, you pay GD extra to have a premium listing but if they only bother to email you once the name was "cancelled" from your acct then I might not bother w/premium again

The WHOIS is now private, your buyer already has it in his acct and even added privacy. So all n all it looks like you're happy w/the outcome, congrats ! (even if you don't recall listing it lmao....)

Support can be disgusting at times, they misinform you, it costs you money and no one takes the blame, they say the customer doesn't know what he's doing

But security is better after they intro'd the double-auth system by text message in Aug 2012 and it's free, so loggin in impersonating you became harder, but I agree GD does not have other features that made Fabulous a favorite for that (and Moniker, but not so much anymore)

Other than what the people at GD have done to me I find prices lower than most, and the UI/API is something I like, but their offering you a dozen products before checkout may bother some...

I had it listed premium. Listed a month back. It sold for 690 minus the 30% commission. Not bad for a 99 cent hand regged domain

But still.. I never got an email it was sold

Is this first time you sold something via premium? That image of the email you received regarding payment, is typically the notice of the sale.

But yes, that or another congratulatory email should come before the domain is moved out of your account and the subsequent "cancelled" email you mentioned in your first post.

It worked out great for Ray, wow, a handregged domain not long ago (a good one actually, I like it) and for 99c (not even $8 !)..... it's things like this that hook people into domaining if they haven't been doing it long enough

And in fact 30% is a huge commission (the bid was actually $690, that's really good) and one email (the one Ray posted) is all you get ? Maybe something went wrong on GD's side on this one

With reg sales you get one when the name sells, one after the buyer pays, one after they move the domain to the other account, one once the name is cancelled from your acct and last a "You've been paid" email. This is not a "premium" service imo....

:P

and, the attachment you enclosed is the "you've been paid" thing...my bad

and this should've been my 100th post..... !

B-)
