Hello, I was just checking my domain names in my Godaddy account this morning and found that one of my names was not in the list. I checked the whois and it's listing that someone else owns the name. I just renewed the name for 5 years in December and have the receipt from Godaddy which shows it was paid for.

I've contacted Godaddy support and am awaiting an answer. In the mean time, does anyone know if there is some page on Godaddy that shows the history of the domain name, like if the name was transferred out on XX day? I can't find any sort of historical page like this in their account manager. Is there any other way aside from someone hacking my account that would force Godaddy to transfer a domain to someone else without alerting me to what is happening? If someone were to petition Godaddy or another entity claiming the domain was a violation of a trademark or copyright, could Godaddy simply transfer the name without alerting me?

The domain in question is a 3 letter dot net that I've owned since 1996 or so.

i think that something like this would prompt an email to be sent to you... it would be a good idea that you change your email password...

Perhaps GoDaddy was unable to register the domain even after they sent you a receipt? I would definitely look into this matter. Keep us informed and good luck.

happened to me once years ago, with enom. I registered a domain and I think it was only a few weeks after I registered it, that it was transferred to someone else. I sent a few emails back and forth to enom. They replied to my emails but were never able to offer any good explanation.

Well I contacted customer support at Godaddy via phone and was told that the domain appears to have been transferred to another Godaddy account. He says from the notes on my account that I was contacted via email regarding the transfer but never responded to the notices. I asked the guy how the domain transferred then and he says he really isn't familiar with how the whole process works but somehow they gave enough valid information for them to believe the transfer request was legitimate. He informed me that I need to contact Godaddy's "Undo Department" to get further help with this matter. I've emailed them and will need to wait for a response because it looks like they are closed for today.

I've checked my email and spam box and have not received any notices from Godaddy in the past months.

I find that very scary that one can initiate a transfer request and have it go through without any sort of verification.

Thanks for the advice so far from everyone. I have promptly changed my passwords on several online accounts.

You should get some kind of compensation for this. There is not excuse for that.

Hopefully they will make good.....they usually do when they screw up. You may get a gift in the mail, or a big discount on some renewals, etc...... Quite often a company will do this so that you have no recourse to sue them, meaning you accepted something as a "settlement".

Good luck.....let us know for sure what happened. I would really like to know. :)

Thats quite interesting. Have you called up the person who is now listed on the Whois, and question them directly? I would.

I don't want compensation, I want my domain back. It was a 3-letter .net name...

Speaking of which, is it really true that someone can initiate a domain transfer and have it go through without any sort of verification? Or is it supposed to be verified? Because if normal procedure is to receive verification and they did not, the domain should not have been transferred. Therefor it would be their fault would it not?

The domain needs to be unlocked, and even then there needs to be an Auth code used. Even if this was pushed to another account it would need to be accepted on their end.

GoDaddy has some explaining to do....

Was this transfered to another registrar or simply another godaddy account?

Either way - it would require a login from your side to either initiate a push, or generate the security code to accept a transfer at the other registrar. I do recommend revealing the domain name so all Domainers are aware not to purchase it.

The domain is whz.net

It was pushed to another Godaddy account, not to another registrar.

Then everything is contained within their records. They should be able to explain the chain of events that lead to this.

On Jan 28th - DomainTools records a new Whois owner:

Mumcu, Erdal [email protected]
Kamber Koyu, 112 Cadde, No 13/2,
Kayseri, Talas 56560
Turkey
5352151617 Fax --

However, that has obviously sinced changed to its current holder. Perhaps its already been resold?

Creed, does your form of payment's account (e.g. credit card) show you were
indeed billed? And check if the transfer possibly occurred some time after that
supposed auction closed on 01/01/2009 01:30 PM (PST).

I was billed. It's on my credit card statement. How do you check when the transfer occured? I could not find any sort of historical page in my Godaddy account that shows that information. The customer service guy at Godaddy told me all he could see was that the domain was indeed transferred but could not tell me when.

I would be on the phone with a Supervisor right now. I hope this domain has been locked while they research what happened. Scary stuff!

Its possible that this spammer changed the email address on your account to accept the transfer without your knowing, then changed it back after the domain was in his posession. If the domain is still with GD they should be able to do an Undo request, but I would most definiltey be on the phone with them right now

if someone gained access to your email account (through hacking , social networking , etc) he might have pushed the domain to his account and deleted the notification email from your email account (so as not to leave-traces/raise-suspicions)

change the rest of your passwords ASAP

(also check whether you accidentally transferred the domain while making a legit push to someone ... it just needs a wrong click in a check-box for this to happen (as well as skimping through the notifications though)

... though I doubt this is the case)

since the GoDaddy auction listing says that the domain is from "99 to 2014" that means that it was renewed before it got to the hands of the person that posted that auction

call GoDaddy to freeze/lock the domain if it hasn't been freezed already
