GoDaddy Auctions -- Discussion, Acquisitions, and Sales

I searched the forum and could not find a thread dedicated solely to Godaddy auctions, which seem to be heating up lately.

I envision this thread as a place for discussion regarding YOUR sales and acquisitions, and general discussion about the auction venue itself, and, perhaps, some domain oddities that are popping up on the auction site, for example, high-priced domains that should be regfee.

:)

One caveat, though: for your own good, PLEASE do not reveal your auction win (or anyone else's, for that matter) until the domain has landed in your account because the original owner still has the option to renew it, and I know how vexing that can be. In other words, don't count your chickens until they're hatched.

On the other hand, if you're having second thoughts about your auction win, by all means tell us all about it.

I suppose that if an auction win is high profile, it's already out there, but, still...

Anyway, I'll start with three comments:

1. I won my first (and maybe last) intentional typo, and it's getting clicks (no $ so far, though): Forwx.com. I could not find a live TM on this term, but one never knows. I have mixed feelings about this one.

2. I accidentally clicked on a BIN that I didn't want (I wanted the one above it), but I decided to honor the bid anyway. Grrr..., so be careful before hitting the submit button. It's not in my account yet, so I can't really reveal it right now.

3. Currently, there's a weird .co domain at over $9,000, with three bidders duking it out. Again, I don't want to reveal what it is, but if you go to the most active auctions, it's number 1 (as of this posting).

Mods, I hope this thread is okay.

:)

I lost one to renewal/transfer that I've been tracking for over 3 years. What made the "victory" sweet was that it didn't even get any bids and I got it at closeout.

Then comes the dreaded email shortly before it's to be mine.

The odd thing is that the whois says someone in China and he wasn't the owner prior to expiration. Not sure what happened there.

The "owner" probably received an offer and sold the domain.

Then he either paid the redemption fee or transferred the domain out, despite the fact that it was expired and then transferred it to the buyer.

Yes, this sucks because if ICANN says that you have 45 days after expiration to renew, then Godaddy has no business selling domains that don't belong to them UNLESS they have been approved by the owner to act in the owner's behalf.

Instead, Godaddy is acting in their own behalf. Unless domainers and others make a lot of noise, it will be business as usual.

I have complained time and time again, but on deaf ears. I'm just one person.

Well, I'll vote with my dollars by no longer bidding on GD auctions.

anybody know how long after the expired auction close the domain will be available to public ? (if nobody bid or buy it)

Thanks

Around day 75 after expiration the domain will be deleted from the registry, unless the owner renews it within 45 days after expiration.

Be aware of the expiring auctions domain age.

I just won a couple of expiring auctions and each of the auction listings has the age of the domain 1 year older then it really is.

First domain:
Was listed as 11 yrs old but,
Created on: 11-Dec-02
Actual age is 10

Second domain:
Was listed as 10 yrs old but,
Created on: 11-Dec-03
Actual age is 9

This is something new since I have never seen it before and I pay attention to the domains age.
Last I checked born on or created on dates all begin at 0

:-/

Perhaps a new year Y2K
Godaddy has never listed it that way before and if they are now counting a change in a calender year as a year older from Jan 1st then it would still make it incorrect and misleading.

Perhaps they got some Filipino employees. They count 0-1 as 1, 1-2 as 2 etc :)

Riddle me this Batman and Batgirl,

I just had am auction end just a few moments ago where I was due to get the domain tomorrow and now the whois says the registrar is Enom!
How is that possible?

How does the second an auction ends the registrar has changed from Godaddy to Enom?

The domain was a great name, OKDear.com

I just find this very strange with one day left it gets renewed and switched to a different registrar instantly.

HHhhhhhmmmmm :-/

They were in the process of transferring Lennco probably, I have seen that. The auction is closing and they know its on auction and are transferring to not pay $80.

Thanks equity78,
I see what you are saying.
They go it in right under the wire, I would have had in in my account today.
Sneaky little trick.

Thanks again, rep to you :)

There's nothing sneaky about it. It's allowed and legitimate.

I have no doubt it is, it just feels sneaky.
I may use it myself one day, who knows ;)

Why can't I list a domain for more than 50k on Godaddy? Yet you see many domains well above 50k

Anything above $10k you need to submit an appraisal for approval.

Thank you for the quick reply, Didn't know that. Guess I need to find a generous appraiser . I have a good domain but domain index and Estibot don't do it justice.

You are a new member, and I presume your domains aren't from 1994 either. But you seem to suggest you have domains that are worth 50K+.
Some people have high hopes in this industry, but I'm just saying :]

I think that before selling domain for 50K, one should first start selling one domain for $50, and then climb up the ladder.
