"Get Listed At The Top Of The Major Search Engines"

Anyone ever pay one of those companies that promises to get your site listing higher in the major search engines? Some even promise that you'll be in the top position...but I don't think they can do that.

Do they help/are they worth it? If so, are there any companies you would recommend?

Thanks,
Dan

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Well I don't think that all companies just make claims and take money. Some of them may be worth it and genuine also who guarantee a top position although I have never thought about adopting this way to get a higher listing in the search engines.

Usually by following some tutorials and a little personal effort you can gain some reasonable ranking anyway. If your lazy like I am then it's best to get somebody else to do it, but lots of forum members can offer the service at somewhat lower prices than a specialist company will.

I'm not affraid of the effort (took a break from it to come here!). My concern is that I've read a lot about it and it seems like there are different opinions on how to get this done...so, my paranoia kicks in and says that some may just be trying to mislead people so there's less competition. That makes me want to hire someone who has done it a number of times before and is sure they can do it again.

Anyway, if anyone reading this offers SEO services, let me know your rates.

But alot show they have got people top rank for like there state name product or something like words noone searches for lol. But I am interested to find someone to help seo a site for me thanks.

Go with a company you trust rather than a company that makes outlandish unrealistic claims.

What are some "trusted" companies?

waste of money.... you can do it yourself by folllowing basic rules unless your chasing a keyword such as debt or finance

I would recommend doing it yourself....and you just have to get sites to link to you with these keywords. Generally the more links you get the higher up you are on the search engine site.

Keep in mind the goal of search engines are to provide users with the most relevant results, so really the best way to get to the top is by having a really good site that people just link to becuase, not for trading links.

There is no one, and I mean no one that can guarantee a top listing in any search engine. With that being said, I would suggest you learn SEO yourself. You'll be a much better webmaster for it as well as have the great feeling that comes from knowing you did it yourself (You'll also save a ton of $$$ to boot).

This is true. However SEO is usually a tedious process and requires alot of experience in order to do it right. If you have the time and want to learn these things then it is a very possible thing. However It is not easy.

:imho: no one can control the search engines and to even promise you'll be on top is i think somewhat a lie or too good to be true of an offer, better do a keyword search on that domain first and see if they're listed on top frontpage too to see if it works, for sure they will try it themselves, and if ever they're able to "tame" or at least "figure out" those search engines im pretty sure for business trade secret's sake, they would want to guard it with their life and instead register domains and develop it and do their seo stuffs on it and make continous money on it rather than selling their "trade secrets":)

I agree completely. I'm working on SEO for a few of my sites, we'll see how it turns out.

Thanks all.

Why does everyone think seo is so hard. its really not, its just time consuming and a slow process.

Step 1 - research
Plug in any and all search terms into this and check how many searches are happening with certain search terms. Make a list of the higest search counts with the most relevant terms for your site.
http://www.DigitalPoint/tools/suggestion/

You may want to find a keyword sugestor to help find more keywords to plug in to the above site.

Step 2 - Insert Keywords
Take your list of keywords that you know are being activly searched for and plug them in to your site. Replace your words on you page with the words and terms most searched for. Now...

choose 3 high searched for and relevant to that page terms

-name your html page with a search term.
-Put the number 1 searched term for this page in your title tag
-Add a H1-H3 tags to your site and put the keywords in there
-Add these terms in bold, Italics, Underline in your page content
-Add Meta Description using the 3 top keywords
-put the 3 top keywords you chose in the META Keywords tag and throw in some more text directly from your page.

Now this is for 1 page of your site. You should do this for every page, and not target the same keywords. Each page should target at least 3 seperate high searched for terms.

Hope this helps someone.

search engines give you rank on basis of PR . so they cant give you rank for words like "web design " but they can give u rank for " webdesign in your city" and that you can do yourself too .. so better is to hire someone to increase PR of your site rather paying to SEO companies

Sorry but PR has nothing to do with a sites SE ranking. And they rank every term including "web design" its more competitive in those keywords but they are targeted. Do search on google for "web design", check the rankings of the sites. Every possible search term is ranked, and not according to pagerank.

Paying a SEO company to get listed and rank well is a cost saving measure. It saves alot on PPC in the future.
