Recently following three prime generic domains were sold:

Date.org $150,349 SnapNames
Loan.org $105,500 SnapNames
Credit.info $36,000 Sedo

As one can see the .info was a lot cheaper than both of the .org's.
Will this always be the case or does the future holds better prospects for .info? Please express your opinions via the poll and any related comments below.

Many times data can look dramatically different depending on which *isolated* part of the whole you zero in on...From the same source, when you do a search for sales between $5K and $50K, you get 59 .nets, 26 .orgs, and 16 .infos. Being almost a decade or more younger than its older sibs, .info still lags behind but the numbers don't look as dire as you'd have it looking at just above $50K sales. Thats the whole point of the poll.....i.e. will .info, being much younger than .org/.net, ever catch up to its older sibs? Its 5 years old while its sibs are over 15, the point being that often with the passage of time the age difference becomes less and less prominent. The difference between an infant and a 10 year old is much more striking than between a 25 and a 35 year old.

BTW, very nice resource for searching domain sales...Thanks.

that is extremelly well said.
excellent examples.

also, one needs to remember that a vast majority of online users are on the net looking for INFOrmation.
eventually, that info will cocnlude their quest with buying something, joining something, downloading something...etc...etc...
But the vast majority of the time it starts with a quest for information.
Also, other than being a good solid GTLD, info has the added advantage of having the same meaning in many EUropean languages, making it a great source for secondary use after each countries ccTLD.

in 2003-4, info sales were IMO doing better than now, in some cases anyhow.
the reason is the Afilias did the controversial give out for free .infos and the still on going campaign of $1-2 infos, which diluted the value of this gTLD.
wether in the long run, this marketing approach will help the extension, it remains to be seen. But .info is a natural in this information age.
