I just saw this on digg and wanted some perspective. This guy wants to trade up his oneuglydomain.com for a more "beautiful" one worth $1 million. It's like that oneredpaperclip idea, but with domains.

My question is, does he have a chance or is this just a parody? I have a couple of dead domains I wouldn't mind trading for if I can feed off the publicity this might generate.

Thoughts?

At least Anonymous #1 and #1 didn't go calling people 'retarded'.

As far as I'm concerned, onlinecasino.im did win fair and square. How is you earning support for your eboyfriend set via this thread any less corrupt/undemocratic than somebody earning support via his msn list? One vote per person... with a valid email address. This is one way in which the support for OUD will grow.. people linking their friends up, especially at Voting time.

Also, don't underestimate that whole two-party factor. If people see the vote, notice that 1 domain they don't like is at the top... but a second domain (previously with few/no votes) that they don't mind is a few votes behind, there is a good chance they'll vote for THAT 2nd domain instead of another domain they like even more, that has fewer votes... I'll put it this way, if I am voting in America, I most likely wouldn't vote for a minor party, even if it aligned 100% with my political viewpoints. Instead, I'd pick the major party most likely to represent more of my viewpoints, as there is a reasonable enough chance that that party will win, and my vote will mater... But yea, you understand all this.

Randy, if you want us to start looking forward, don't be so provocative. Don't be quoting comments from the website, and calling folk 'retarded'. It is bad form.

Anyway.. In my opinion....... Onlinecasino.im is a fine name. It should serve OUD well.

It's so nice to see that you're letting this thing PASS opposed to beating on a dead horse. Who cares what won? Round 13 is dead & buried in the past. ppl, stop talking about my old arguement. I stopped long ago. Sheesh...

Sheesh!

Your rant continues onto this current page! It was posted less than 24 hours ago. You should be well aware of this... since you posted it!!

So.. today's lesson: Don't be a hypocrite!

You can't have your cake and eat it too.

mmm cake.

Now..... so that we can actually move forward..... how about we talk about the onlinecasino.im portfolio. Personally, I think the onlinepoker.im domain is missing out on some of the spotlight. When it comes to online gambling, nothing is so huge as poker. :-D

What rant? *rolls eyes*

Moving on: dontknow has a good point. In the right hands, this package will do well. My only thought about it is: What would ppl be willing to trade for it? Will we see another NNN.net or another strong one-word domain? I'm unsure. If anyone is considering entering this round, post a few of the domains you want to add to the vote. It'll be interesting to see what ppl would trade for this.

I'd like to see OUD progress faster. I think it'll get better names submitted once it gets back to some decent TLDs. It's not going to get crazy media attention with names like casino.rw or onlinecasino.im

Which round do you think it'll hit the first $10k+ value name? $100k?

I have the feeling you're right. Even if casino.rw could be flipped for a decent profit, round 13 still had decent-to-trash domains on vote. Things might be better if Andres only accepted the top extensions (.com, .net, .org, .info, .biz). I think ppl would have preferred OnlineCasino.com over casino.rw.

Which round? I doubt it will ever reach $10,000, ever. But that's a part of Andres' goal: to prove his critics wrong. So we'll see.

Lookee there... You found the perfect way to say "crap" without actually saying it. :guilty: ;)

Yeah, but it just isn't as succinct, is it.

I've approved the transfer to Andres of all the names in the OnlineCasino.im/OnlinePoker.im set. I should have my Casino.rw within a day or two. Here is a small article that may interest some who are thinking about trading this round... http://casinoblog.viaden.com/2007/03/15/isle-of-man-nice-place-for-your-online-gambling-business/

From what I remember reading (back when I registered the names), the Isle of Man had several major casino companies running gambling websites from there, but they all left because of regulation problems. Now the Isle is trying to court them back by loosening regulations and the zero-tax thing. BTW, a seach for "Isle of Man casino" brings up the Hilton Hotel and Casino in the city of Douglas.

I'm hoping this will be a good round for Andres. At the least, it will be interesting to see if he will adjust the rules a little to make OUD a bit more viable.

Round 14 has officially begun. I won't participate but I'm eager to see what domains will be on offer this time around.

I hope you make some good money on Casino.rw, it's a decent name. I've been trying to think of what RW could stand for ( I suppose Rogue Writer's Casino is out of the question ) , but all I could think of was RW = Roulette Wheel . Maybe a site focussed on that? Anyways, good luck, it will be interesting to see what you get out of it.

I'm a bit worried about this round as the 4 domains only have a couple of months left until they expire and the renewal fees are pretty pricey at £40 (+VAT) each..

Yes, me too, I wanted to submit Andres some decent .com's this round but I looked at their expiration date, and will keep my domains for another round.
Hope that this round there will be a trade-up though.

I think Andres mentioned ReWards. I like that a lot more than his other suggestion of RevieWs.

It's been over 24 hours and still no offers?

Casino Rewards would be a good name for it, that's the best I've heard so far, IMO.

I'm sure they'll be coming soon enough :)

I'm not offering much this round, though, mainly beause the number of .im sales is... well, really small to be honest :(

I think the country codes are killing this idea.

It's not too late...I think he should impose a .com, .net.org rule now to save the site. Some of these TLD's with crazy reg fee's and who knows value make it too tough to offer a decent .com.

I don't want these .im's because reg fees are due soon (or so they say; I'm too lazy to check) and the fees are rediculously high. Andres should keep on the 5 main ext. All of the others really don't work well.

Where are the guys who thought the .im names are so great? Why not throw in some offers? How about the guy that traded them in the first place? Not worth offering some trades for them?

What have you offered OUD for this round, hmmmm?

The reason I haven't offered anything this round is because I have offered almost every one of my best domains to Andres in previous rounds. Andres won't take names that have already been offered. I have a pronounceable LLL.net (which is worth at least $2000 IMO) and a few that are too dear to my heart to offer up yet, even to get back some of my best .im names.

It's been almost 2 days and there aren't any offers mentioned on the site. Should we worry?

I think ppl are taking the large (and nearing the renewal time) reg fees as considerations. Theoretically, if these domains were worth $1,000 as a package, ppl might view them as far less because unlike casino.rw, these need renewed soon and the reg fees are still high...

Dang... I kinda feel bad now that I didn't renew at least 1 or 2 of them before I transferred them to Andres. When I originally offered them up for trade on OUD I remembered them being $40 each, but later realized they are actually £40 (pounds) each, which is almost $80 per renewal.

Before the transfer, I told Andres that domainers can be pretty fickle when it comes to names that need immediate renewal after the sale. He didn't seem too worried about it, but I felt he should be. I don't want to be responsible for killing OUD! :'(

If it's OK with Andres, I will pay for renewal of any one of the four names after they are transferred to the new owner. That way, if the winner wants to renew (for example) just two of the four names, they'll only be out $80 instead of $320. Long live OUD!
